http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/team/_/stat/defense/sort/sacks/seasontype/2 Jets tied for 8th in sacks....but in overall pressure stats I've seen, they're alot lower. Thoughts ?
They haven't got pressure all year. Pressures is probably a more important part of being consistent as a defense and it's clear we haven't had any kind of consistency against an average or better Oline.
The Jets pressure isn't just designed to get sacks, it's designed to get QBs to make bad throws. How many fucking times does this have to get said? Sacks are great, but incomplete passes are pretty good too.
It is a deceptive stat. As others have pointed out, it's the pressure that counts. In 09 we had very few sacks but constant pressure, and no coincidence our D was more consistent.
We sacked Brady 3 times in the first half of that last game we played against them...do you think we got good pressure in that game?
I dont believe its only completions that is the problem because by completion percent standards I believe the defense was very good. But the rest of the stats are up because of the lack of pressure. Big plays and touchdowns. Fewer interceptions.
sacks r meaningless the 09 game against the patriots proves this as miss america was running for his life all day yet the jets didnt get one sack
It means what people should already know, sacks do not equal pressure. Just like interceptions do not mean good coverage, and completion percentage does not mean a good quarterback.
Well, it's actually designed to get sacks. However, Rex Ryan has developed a reputation and quarterbacks tend to have a shorter internal clock when playing against one of his defenses. Instead of a QB waiting 3 seconds to get rid of the ball, he might throw it after 2, which makes it harder for the Jets to get to the QB.
