In the last segment of the show, the host asks "Which rookie quarterback starts more games this season: Matt Leinart or Vince Young?" The analyst quickly replied "Kellen Clemens." It seems like everyone likes this kid besides you nay-sayers.
No those two weren't on todays show. I can't remember the guys full name but his first name is Mark and I think he used to play Oline in the NFL
Mark Schlereth. I doubt Clemens plays more than either. The other guys are practically backups with their qb situations.......Clemens has 3 veterans in front of him....not saying who's better than who, but just by a numbers game, Leinart and Young have a better chance of playing.
I disagree. I think both teams (Cardinals and Titans) are committed to keeping their rookies on the bench as long as possible. They have coaches who are loyal to their veterans, unlike us. They also have healthy veterans in front of their rookies who, barring injury, they would rather see on the field knowing their teams are growing still. I think both players are going to get the Carson Palmer treatment because they know they aren't serious Super Bowl contenders with or without the QBs. In Matt Leinart's case I think they believe Kurt Warner is 100% a better option at this point. So they want to let Matt learn a little first before throwing him into the fire. In Vince Young's case, I think they know Vince ain't ready to throw in the NFL and want him to get his feet wet before he starts running here and there like Michael Vick did. In our case, Chad is about 50-50 at best to make it through the season, Ramsey looks like he is going to struggle to make the team, and Brooks isn't going to start a QB school anytime soon. So if Pennington gets injured, we might as well let Kellen play. This is the same with the other two teams, except Chad is about 10x more likely to get injured.
I don't know if brooks is starting material but if they would let him run the offense instead of trying not to lose he would have been okay.

i would just as soon have clemens as my guy this year....BUT...there is definitely something to the idea of letting a young qb sit and watch and not throw him into the fire.....but with chads injuries...if ramsey cant be productive i think we get a good glimpse into the future this year
See Carr, David. You need a happy medium. Need to let him know he is going to need to take shots and bounce back up, but if you let him continue to get pummelled he could break down psychologically. On the other hand, if you yank him from the game that could also hurt him psychologically because he may think he is out of favor or something. It's definately a delicate process...
Absolutely. The thing is, I think we will have a better offense then we do a defense for the first time in a long time. Brick, Mangold, Coles, Cotchery, McCareins, Baker, Pete Kendall, Cedric Houston, and Curtis Martin. Those are all players that should be good next year. If we put Clemens in for a couple of games in November, I don't think it would be a Troy Aikman situation or David Carr scenario. Or anything close to that. Clemens would be able to compete. Will he be Ben Rothlisberger? Almost 100% no, but I think he can learn and stay healthy at the same time.
If he's going to break down mentally we can always call Donovan McNabb's mom to minister some Chunky Soup. Great players aren't intimidated, they know who they are and they don't worry about a lot of nonsense. If they are going to be intimidated or permanetly shaken by a little adversity better to find out to soon rather than to late.
I can see why people THINK Clemens will be starting this year. But it's not going to happen if Mangini has any sense. Maybe throw him into a late-season garbage game, but keep him away from anything too substantial while the team figures out what it is. I agree Chad is probably too fragile to expect more than a handful of starts from, and that Ramsey is a poor man's Jay Fiedler, but Brooks Bollinger can hang in there for a season and do good work. I think BB's the future myself, but even naysayers must agree he's the only QB you can expect anything from in the present. Chad's a gamble, and Clemens is an investment.
