I think there is merit to this, but we should not overstate it. As we speak Belichik is probably or has already gone over game film of the Jets since the losses to NE and Miami. Odds are he will come up with something new hoping to counter what the Jets have been having success with.
I don't think so. At that point you're trying to accomplish anything just to hang your hat on. Remember we did drive down the field a few times in the second half just to turn it over and get nothing out of it. I really doubt they were holding back for a potential playoff game at that point, just like I doubt New England would have been thinking about it. The focus was all about that particular game for two weeks leading up to it.
I'm sorry to hear that MBP, with all sincerity. (And of course I hope you understand I thought we were just doing our regular friendly jabs.) All the best to you and yours. I've lost all my grandparents as well as my father, and I know how much it sucks. God bless.
I'm sure Rex and company have been trying to figure out ways to beat the Patriots since they knew they'd end up right back in Foxborough should the Jets advance in the playoffs.
Agreed... I think objective #1 in winning that game was to grab hold of the division and make sure that any rematches, if there were any, would be in Foxboro. Sanchez is starting to develop his own little "House of Horrors" up here (something like 1 TD to 7 INTs, and the two games weren't all that close). But like I said earlier, it's about execution. Even if you know exactly what the other team is going to try to do, you still have to play the game. The Patriots beat teams by executing with ruthless efficiency. Not a lot of smoke-and-mirrors or crazy plays. Most of the time, it's the same basic stuff, but they play with a "stop us if you can" kind of mentality. That's not to say the Jets can't stop them... they've already proven that they can. But I don't think the 45-3 game, in terms of plays and game-planning, will impede BB is this one at all.
Maybe there's a motivational thing but in some ways there's a risk that Foxboro is getting into Sanchez's head. He had personally shit his pants in both his games up there so far so while it's possible that the defense will play at a higher level for the Jets I think it's equally likely that Sanchez is going to vomit all over himself and throw 3 picks.
At this stage in his career there is always a risk that Sanchez will play a poor game but I am not concerned at all that Foxboro is getting in his head or anything like that. The best thing that he has going for him at this point is that he is mentally tough... no matter what the body language psychiatrists would have you believe.
Ryan has a lot of film ... he tried his blitz happy defense and that failed. Hopefully he will modify how he plays brady -- the bend don't break approach might work, but you have to make some plays.
the only people that belicheck helped by piling on are the ppl that take the jets and under thanks to a rediculous 8.5 pt spread.
The reserve is that because the Pats showed so many different offensive formations, it may make it difficult to gameplan for them all. At some point having all those options just confuses a defense, so not sure whether that is a plus or a minus for the jets having seen the full range of the pats offensive playbook.
Sorry if I find it hard to believe that in such a critical game ,according to Rex, the Pats played their best and the Jets played their worst
I found it hard to believe too, the latter part anyway, but there it was for everyone to see. Had we lost even one other game by more than 9 points you could possibly say that maybe wasn't our worst game, but it's not even close.
Don't think Pats showed their whole bag of tricks in the 45-3 blowout. Even though both teams knew the winner would get division & bye week .... it just makes sense Belicheck was holding onto at least one big play/scheme if the game was tight in the 4th quarter. In fact, the Jets failed to see how BB would adjust if his new offensive schemes got stuffed so they can be viewed as having a disadvantage there. Doesn't mean Jets won't be prepared. Rex came up w/ a brilliant game plan for Manning which utilized few blitzes ... he knows the Pats are studying the Colts/Jets game ... Rex will adjust again.
