One play against a ton of missed coverage isn't enough to give him a game ball. You need to be looking at your O-line and running backs as the reason you won the game today. That was a hell of a running effort.
If he doesn't get burned on that 60-yard TD, we don't need that return. That said, we don't win this game without that KR.
SC is right. Greene, LT and the OLine won this game tonite and that template is the one TBIS should use to get us to Dallas. Cro may have earned himself a new job as Holmes' judgement on kicks isn't the best. Great return but when the Jets went to ground, we won the game.
Up until his KR I was ready to throw him under the bus. Can't remember Rhodes I think it was, went past him in the backfield just like SG did in SD last year, Dude just HATES contact.
I'd also like to add that Eric Smith had some really good plays out there tonight. We were fortunate to have him back. I think he made at least 3-4 saves tonight that could have turned into bigger plays. Cromartie is more tit-for-tat. He gives up a TD and a big play, but he manages to get a couple back. I was more impressed with the OL and Backs in the 2nd half.
he got beat all game, as usual, but when the game was on the line he made a huge play to set up our O in great field position.
He is so frustrating as he is athletically as gifted as they come but just seems to lack the concentration / technique at key times.
Hate to agree with Chris Collinsworth, but everytime Cromartie was playing tight coverage, man to man, he did pretty well. Anytime he backed off, giving the guy 5 extra yards, we got burned. You think maybe we could stop doing that?
I was surprised watching the Jets postgame show to see just how many tackles and passes defended (2 but still) Eric Smith had. He showed up big fucking time. That said, while I agree with everyone that our O-line and RBs had an awesome game, I would still give the game ball to Edwards. He made some amazing catches, and but for that last one, I'm not that confident Folk wins the game for us.
I'm surprised how little love Smith seems to get for last night performance. But there were some bright spots all around. I would agree on Edwards. When the ball was catchable, he made some very sweet plays. Keller too, down the stretch in the final drive or two.
Cro really stepped up filling in for Smith on kick-return duty. That speaks to his raw athletic ability. I shake my head when considering Cro's bipolar pattern this season. (I would say the same about Braylon but can't; he's been SUPER clutch w/o any recent and mindless penalties. He would get my most-improved-Jet vote.) I hope B. Smith returns healthy so Cro can focus strictly on his man-to-man coverage technique and schemes. I don't think either team can afford blown coverage this coming Sunday. Go, Jets!
We figured that out in week 1 against the Ravens. It was even more obvious in the first Patriots game. Not sure why it still happens.
Cro got burnt bad by Garcon on a 3rd & 8 that would have forced a punt. He was so out of position. Colts went on to score a FG to make it 14-13... He looks like shit sometimes.
You cant just give out 1 game ball with a victory like this against the Colts in the playoffs. This was a total team effort; I have 9 game balls... 1) Our coaching staff for making the proper halftime adjustments down 7-0, that led to the Jets out-scoring the Colts 17-9 during the 2nd half. 2) Our offensive line for taking over the game. 3) Our defense for limiting Peyton Manning and the Colts to only 16 points off of 1TD / 3 FG's. 4) This game ball goes out to both L.T and Shonn Greene for exploding behind our offensive line. 5) Mark Sanchez on a do or die, win or go home, bounce back performance during the 2nd half; going 9-11 with a game winning drive. 6) Darrelle Revis for doing something special; holding Reggie Wayne to only 1 catch for 1 yard. 7) Nick Folk for not dying under pressure like previous Jet FG kickers. 8) This game ball goes out to our Safetys. Both had their best games as Jets; especially Smith. 9) Edwards, Holmes, Cromartie, Harris, Scott, Keller & Cotchery. They all made plays..
