Santonio Holmes just had his worst game as a Jet

And I'm including the games he was suspended for.

First, that drop with five minutes or so in the fourth quarter was the biggest drop in a big spot the Jets have had since I don't even know when. I've seen some writers suggest Nick Folk was almost the 2010 Doug Brien Award Winner, but this was the play that I was sure, at the time, had lost the game for the Jets. The play is forgotten because the Jets won, but I'm sure the Jets will remember it when the time comes to talk contract. He's come up big sometimes, but he's also made a lot of mistakes.

Second. And this is a big one. What in God's name was Santonio Holmes doing on that first quarter punt, I think the first punt of the game. Again, this gets overshadowed because the Jets won the game, not to mention the whole incident resulted in a lost challenge by the Colts. Still, this was the most idiotic and inexplicable thing I've seen done on a football field this year. He waves everybody off the ball, then goes over and dances around it, coming agonizingly close to a turnover which would've been as devastating as it was unnecessary. What the F is going through this guy's head?

Braylon Edwards continues to prove himself indispensable, and sometimes it seems like the bad Santonio Holmes outweighs the good. It'll be interesting to see if the Jets stick with their previously stated intention to keep both players when money starts getting thin at other positions, like inside linebacker.

Edwards has been the most consitent and reliable receiver, Holmes has had some un-Holmes like moments with drops, but together they are very scary. Cotchery seems to be the forgotten man right now.

Holmes will catch a big slant on Sunday,

Funny thing, watching the game I thought that #10 was NOT having a good game, but then you look at the highlight reel and see that he made key catches at clutch times. Its a funny old game huh.

Hey atleast it wasnted a TD that we needed like he droped in his hands in the Miami game, or a very big fumble that has happend alot lately!!

It could have been alot worse. He did a good job.

Yes Edwards is more of a "CLUTCH" guy but we need to see what happens to him next year with possible being suspended or not.

Holmes hopefully will redeem himself. I dont think it was his worst game as a jet though.

I agree...but you want to know something? This weekend. This is the reason we brought him here. I want to see him dominate.

This is a game he needs to win. If the game is in the mid to upper 20's or if its where the Colt game was...he needs to win this game.

And it will not be Sanchez not being accurate because this kid shrugs that crap off and will be on this weekend too. Holmes needs to be a YAC machine.

Wow. Yeah, Holmes dropped that pass, but lets be honest. It wasn't the best pass Holmes got all day. It was a high pass and those aren't easy on short out routes just turning around to look for the ball. Yes, it was catchable, and yes, he dropped the pass. But don't let that blind you with ALL the games he has won for us this year.

Yeah the punt return move was a boneheaded move, but Santonio had just enough sense not to touch the ball.

However, he made a huge, sensible play on the final drive ... if you remember. The short hook in, and then quickly turning around to go out of bounds while avoiding the defender. He caught a few very good passes in clutch situations.

Dropping one pass does not make it your worse game of the season. Then again, he has had some really nice games the entire year, so I'm not surprised.

I love both of these guys, but lets not act like Braylon Edwards has never dropped a pass or two, or three as a Jet; because he has. A matter of fact, Edwards has dropped alot more balls than Holmes during thier careers. Also, lets not forget how clutch Santonio Holmes really is. The Jets locker room doesn't call #10 "Tone-Time" for nothing. Earning a SB MVP award didn't happen because of luck. Holmes dominated the game and made one of the greatest SB catches of all time.

I rolled my eyes when reading what the poster said about the Jets front office "remembering the drop against the Colts" during the offseason. That was too funny. If anything, they'll remember the three games that he won fo us against the Texans, Lions and Browns I believe. If Holmes never came up big during the clutch, against those 3 teams, chances are... We would have never made the playoffs to begin with.

Did he drop that pass last night? Yes. But lets not forget about the two or three big time catches that #10 made last night as well.

You are absolutely right. Although I would add the Denver victory to his credit as well since he drew the PI penalty.

As much as I've liked Edwards this year, he got more open looks just becuase of having Santonio on the other side. Without Santonio, Edwards can be very easily contained with a safety help. The short passing game isn't where Edwards excels, while Santonio's game consists of both, short passes, and deep passes. Santonio is easily the better WR out of the two. Name a receiver that hasn't dropped a pass and I'll name an entire receiving corps for the Jets that have dropped passes. Cotchery, Edwards, Keller, LT, Greene, Brad Smith... The list goes on.

Dropping a pass in the NFL does not automatically become your worse game. Every receiver drops a pass. Its forgiveable, just like every QB will throw a pick, every RB will fumble, every corner will blow a coverage, and every defender will miss a tackle every now and then. I hate it when people become impatient.

    Holmes' good outweighs his bad.

He's arguably lost one game - Miami.

He's won 3 others - HOU, CLE, DET.

He's been known for losing focus like this when he was with Pitt as well as being beyond clutch. Nothing he's done has shocked me minus a couple of really weird fumbles.

Yeah. He did drop the 3rd down conversion. Yes, he did fuck up with the punt.

But worst game? I don't think so. Really. NO.

If Sanchez didn't overthrow Keller at the end of the 1st half, you'll remember at least 3 clutch catches Holmes made to make the TD happen. And before I forget, he also made one big catch at the final drive - and he didn't forget to run out of bounds too. All these culminated in the game winning FG. True, his stats was nothing to show for - it wasn't his normal performance, I can give you that. But worst game as a Jet? That's not really the case.

Yeah Sanchez couldn't drop it in the bucket.

If he does, the Jets win by 14-16 points.

But the kid went 9/20 with a INT, and then he went 9/11 with a 4th quarter. You gotta love that fucking response!

Not trying to get off topic here, since this thread is about Tone-Time, but I couldn't agree with you more Irish Mick.

Sanchez is a winner. He's clutch, and full of nothing but heart, courage and guts when the game is on the line. How many games did Sanchez come from behind during the 4th quarter, or with the game on the line during overtime during the regular season? I count 4 games; Broncos, Texans, Lions and Browns.

We might as well make that 5 clutch wins, now including the Colts victory. This time, Sanchez took his regular season magic and inserted it into a playoff game beating Peyton Manning and the Colts. He's 3-1 during 4 playoff games on the road, with a career QB rating of over 80% during the playoffs. This kid is special. He has the ability to come from behind.

How about the games that he helped us win, sometimes singlehandedly like the catch against Houston.

I think he looks focused out there. Glad to have him in the playoffs, he is playoff proven. The pass before the running into the punter was high and behind him. Yes, it was catachable, but looking at the replays the ball is there as soon as he turns around. Should have been caught, but very tough to catch a ball behind you and high as soon as you turn. Holmes made some great catches in the game and I'm really glad he's on our team.

Edwards has been a beast all season though, and when the time comes I would rather have Edwards.

Maybe Cleveland but Houston? His catch was set up by Braylon Edwards making a huge catch down the sidelines.
