http://espn.go.com/espnradio/player?rd=1#/podcenter/?id=5990930&autoplay=1 ...link might not work, but its the first podcast on the ESPN mainpage under Simmons. (didn't see if this was posted) First off, I'm a big Simmons fan...easily my favorite Sports write/analyst (the only problem is he is a Pats fan). Combine him with Dilfer (my 2nd favorite)...and its just great football talk. Dilfer is $, and he talks about why he likes Sanchez and break down briefly at the end the Colts/Jets game...its mainly a talk about great qbs. I love the part about Sanchez though..."Sanchez is the alpha-dog that alpha dogs follow." 30 minute mark if you're skimming.
Yeah that part about Tim Tebow, Colt McCoy, Sam Bradford, Matt Stafford, Freeman all handing the keys to Sanchez was pretty neat.
Thanks for posting this, I listened to the whole thing and it was great stuff. Dilfer has turned out to be an awesome analyst. Him and Mike Mayock are easily my favorite analysts.
Bill Simmons' voice makes me want to kick people. The maturation of Dilfer's prowess of analysis has been impressive.
dilfer is the only espn analyst that seems to actually know football. i cant stand hodges bruschi, wiley, etc they all make me sick. the nfl countdown guys are alright but espn is horrible IMO.
its sad, most of these guys are nothing but garbage...i was so excited to switch to directv in order to get the nfl network and the folks on these shows are absolute garbage....mariucci....jamie dukes...all these guys do is yell and scream all show..horrible
dukes, and faulk know their shit. well ok, obviously all of them know thier shit in some form... but as far as from the perspective of hte common fan, those two are the most level headed imo. Mooch blows favre every chance he gets, irvin blows the entire cowboys organization every chance he gets - plus is an obnoxious twat. woodson can fuck himself. sapp is changing. he used to be an obnoxius fat bafoon whose sole intent was unintelligible commentary, but i think he realized shannon sharpe's got that on lock over on cbs. so he's been getting better. Dukes, Faulk, Maycock are all the shit though.
I can't stand any of those analysts. Their football analyses are filled with platitudes like "You need to get to the quarterback", "you need to run in the playoffs", blah blah blah. I can't fuckn' stand it.
That's certainly true, but what really pisses me off about him is the way he inserts randomly emphasised words or phrases into his sentences, as if that will compensate for not having anything valuable or original to say.
Dilfer is really a very good analyst, and is great to listen to if you are just a pure fan of the game. You know why? Because he actually does his homework. He doesn't rely on his name to get him jobs or to give him air time, he relies on his mind and watching tape of every game to critically analyze every game. The thing I like about him best is that he admits to the fact that the position he is able to tell you the most about is the quarterback position for obvious reasons. He will offer his two cents about the whole game situation and everything, but he will not be arrogant and act like he really knows how to run a D, unlike some people. He's the class of ESPN.
Dilfer is Sanchez's #1 fan.. he always praises him. He loves his personality and loves what he sees on the tape. Over the summer he was one of the few who said Sanchez over Henne was a no contest.
