The title of this thread is "Why does the media treat the Jets win over the Patriots as if it were meaningless?" Sounds like you are saying- because it was meaningless.
If we lose it's because the Pats are AWESOME! If we win it's because we played them at the right time,before they really hit their stride.
No, I feel that much more credit is unfairly given to the Patriots win over the Jets win. Why, because the Patriots win happened to be in December? A win is a win, no matter when it happens. And yes, all regular season wins/losses are essentially meaningless come playoff time. All that matters is that your team qualifies.
You can't understand why a win close to the end of the season and the beginning of the playoffs doesn't hold as much weight than one at the beginning of the season? C'mon now. AND, it wasn't just a win by a touchdown, it was a dismantling. AND, given all the noise before the game from Rex and the players making the game more important than it was, why wouldn't the media make a big deal out of it too after the game.
BINGO!! It was the same shit last year, but in both cases the Pats and Brady played great prior to facing us. They make adjustments and we counter. So when we do face them again it is our turn to made the adjustments and win. I'll love seeing how the media will twist that.
Come on now what, everything you just said is typical Pats fan bullshit. Patriots got dismantled by the Browns. Jets got dismantled by the Patriots. What are the implications of that, did the losses count for more? Was it...one and a half losses? No. And again, how and when you win in the regular season means nothing as long as you win enough to make the playoffs. When the 10-6 Giants beat the 16-0 Patriots, do you think the Giants cared about getting dismantled by the Vikings 41-17 late in the 2007 season? The Jets finished 1-1 against the Patriots this year, dead even. How and when the games were played makes no difference at all. The Jets win should be given just as much credibility as the Patriots win, (They still had the great Brady and Belichick, did they not?) but that would require intellectual honesty from the sports media, something that is in very short supply.
I could probably normally agree, except that, the last game against the Pats, Belichick crawled inside of Rex's head and took a big steamy poo. Those two games are a tale of two halves of a season. The only way we get to know if the status quo has shifted is to play the Pats and put it on the scoreboard.
No, the week 2 win against the Patriots was a quality win almost everybody acknowledges it was a quality win. Problem was that win was in week 2 so essentially it is meaningless. And if we beat the Patriots in the postseason we'll be on the odds on favorite from that point forward to win the whole thing.
If the jets go into Indy and take care of business they will earn some respect from the media . Let's worry about new England when they print the tickets for the game
Totally agree. I am really excited about a potential meeting with the Pats, and so is most of the football world. But we have a huge task in front of us in Peyton Manning.
So you're making the case that how a team plays in December is irrelevant? It's all just magic? You're going to make the case that a game in the second week of the season between teams is just as relevant as the games more recently played? That all those games played since then don't change a team at all? That they are the same team as they were in week 1? Yes, sports is unpredictable. That's what makes it fun. And there are tons of exceptions available. Yes. It give all fans hope even Seattle Seahawks fans. Still the idea that teams playing well in December have the best chances in the playoffs has merit. If you want to say that the regular season effort does not guarantee success in the playoffs I'm perfectly fine with that. But to say that teams playing well most recently don't gain any benefit from that is taking it too far. Think of the regular season as a training camp for the playoffs. It does matter to some degree.
Absolutely. It was a solid win by the Jets without a doubt. But both teams have gone through an entire season and aren't the same teams they were in week2.
If the football gods truly care about the fans they will give the world a Jets Patriots game..... Colts patriots this year wont be nearly as exciting as previous years
If we play the pats in the divisional round, we're going to get completely destroyed and the game will be over in the first quarter. I mean, they still have to play the game and all that, I understand -- but still, we have no chance of going to the super bowl this year. No chance. The Patriots are going to the Super Bowl representing the AFC. Write it down, game over. I can't stand them. They're like the Nazis in 1942. You hate them, their leaders and what they stand for, yet you stand in awe of what they've accomplished.
Of course it counts. At the very least it means the Jets can beat the Patriots but what it means for a potential Jets/Patriots playoff game I think it means very little. I think the Monday night game has more relevance but even then it's going to be a very different game. Are the Patriots going to pound the Jets again 45-3? doubtful The Patriots played almost a perfect game that night. Will they be able to repeat that? Unlikely The Jets played a really bad game that night, will they play as badly again in the playoffs? Probably not, pretty unlikely.
That's it in a nutshell. That Monday night shellacking can either be a curse or a blessing to this team. Either the Pats are going to be in our heads and we'll crack from the pressure, or perhaps the team will rebound with some fight. It is really hard to know. I think I feel pretty confident that the Jets will give them a good fight, if we don't win. But, it will take a great fight to win.
