You guys who have discussed QBs with me here over the years know I've never been overly impressed with Clemens, but I always thought he was a decent guy and hoped for the best with him. I don't know if this is it for him as a Jet, but it was a nice ending the other day when he scrambled for that TD in the 4th quarter. The way he launched himself into the end zone, got up and kind of flipped the ball away told me a lot, just in the body language. It looked like he gave it his best shot all this time, things didn't work out for him, but there he is still working at it and got a chance to end the season, if not his stay here, on a high note. On a day where a lot of unsung guys got to shine, I'm glad Clemens got in on it after enduring the years with Chad, Favre and then Sanchez throughout his stay here.
I agree. I know that won't be the concensus, but I wish the guy well, and always have thought he has been a straight up guy for us...although he has not not always been successful.
during hard knocks tanny gave clemens the chance to look elsewhere or be happy playing here as the #3. tanny also implied the if clemens sucked it up this year, he would be on track to take the reigns at #2 for the jets in the future. after some sole searching, clemens decided on the jets. not sure if tanny will stay true to his 'implied' msg to clemens...we'll see.
He was pretty much the furthest thing from my mind Sunday until that happened, but seeing that and the way he reacted, I was happy for him.
I was happy for KC and I wished that he got to play more. I think he could be a very solid #2 QB. He never got much of a shot here.
I'm happy for the guy too. Daughter kissed by the pope. 4th quarter TD in meaningless game. What's next for the guy?
Nice post, and I know it wasn't easy to do that you being a Chad Fan and all. Heh. But seriously, Brunell I thought was brought in more to work with Sanchez than to be a true backup. He will be one year older next year. I was always not totally on board with using a roster spot for Brunell, but in fact they did use him on the field. But assuming MS needs the mentoring less next year, I would be fine with Clemens returning and being second on the chart.
Brunell played great and I am confident could play for us in the event Mark has to sit out a series or two. No more than that though.
By all acounts Clemens has always been a standup guy, so it was nice to see him be successful in that game. Having said that, I would be much happier if next year Tannenbaum can find a backup QB that is better than either him or a 41-year-old Mark Brunell. That might not be easy to do, but it's worth a try, since I don't think either of these guys would have a prayer of winning a game against a decent team.
Haha, I'm a Jet fan so it wasn't hard to do. I always rooted for Clemens to do well, I just thought Chad was better and deserved to play over him, he certainly did more for us on the field. I wouldn't mind Clemens staying as the backup since he knows the offense and all, depends on what he wants to do and what his options are, I guess. If we came back with the same three QBs we have now, that's fine, I'm thinking Clemens might feel like he has a better chance to play somewhere else--there were a lot of bad QBs getting time at the end of this season.
Kellen Clemens never had what it takes to be a starter, but he is a classy guy and a real team-first person. That's why I was happy to see him get a chance to play, and run for a TD as icing.
On the first point, well, as the Irish cop said, I'll believe you, but thousands wouldn't. Heh. I also would not expect Clemens to accept being #3 next year here again. He probably improved his marketability in the Buff game. There's supposedly a lot of good Qb's in college this year available in the draft, but you are right, I saw some Qb's who did not look as good as Clemens getting playing time for other teams. Like Chad, uh, Henne. Heh.
i hope he settles into a longterm backup role seems like a decent guy who just never really got his chance
