Ok. I know today's game was frustrating. And I know being a wild card gets tired. But let's put some things in perspective. The Jets are still playing with a 2nd year QB who came out of college a year early. And he played well today and this year for the most part. The Jets have been decimated by injuries on defense. Jenkins and Leonhard may be the two most important pieces on defense. Jenkins for his leadership, run stuffing, and pass rush up the middle. Leonhard for being the brains of the defense on the field. Pace has not played well all year after injuring his foot. And someone explain to me how Revis is healthy when I rarely see him on the opponent's top receiver. With all of that, the Jets have now made the playoffs two years in a row for only the fourth time in their history and the first time in 8 years (1968-69 and 85-86 and 01-02). The Jets are about to play in their 4th playoff game in two years. The Jets have gone decades without playing in one or two playoff games, let alone 4. This team is still flawed. The lack of pass rush is a problem. But in order to win the Super Bowl, the Jets need to be in the playoffs. And their chances to win the Super Bowl increase with them being a perennial playoff team. The Jets just to make incremental improvements each year and they are doing that. Let's stop all this backing in crap and remember that, even with a win today, the Jets were looking a #6 seed. Baltimore is not likely losing another game this year and either are the Steelers. So let's enjoy that the Jets will be playing football in January.
I'm not that worried. If Sanchez and Keller connect before half this game is over. All we have to do is find a way to stop the big plays (Coleman, Lowery, etc.)
Great thread, and let's be grateful for the fact that we are the #6 seed since KC has basically locked up the #3 seed, I'd much rather face the Chiefs than the Colts. Sanchez played great today and that last pick wasn't even really his fault, defender made a great play to get a jump on the ball otherwise it would have been 6.
Great game against a top team. I would have settled for a win, but was happy to see some offensive fireworks on our side. Great thread. Onward and Upward.
That's the best sentence right there. Are we perfect? Far from it. But I'm confident we will go out and get the pieces we need to get better each season. We have an aggressive GM. We will do everything in our power to correct the problems we have in getting to the QB. Making the playoffs is all you can do. You can go 14-2 and be awesome and one slip up and it's over. I expect the Jets to become one of more consistent franchises over the next decade. We're on our way.
One of things that's so frustrating to me is that this team has gotten virtually no help whatsoever from this last draft. While you don't expect all your draft choices to work you do expect some contribution (even in their rookie year) and the Jets have seen nothing to speak of in 2010. Kyle Wilson can't crack the back-up line-up in the secondary and of course Ducasse, McKnight, and Conner have provided very little this year. Hopefully their contributions will be apparent in years to come. The lack of pass rush has been really disheartening and the play of the defense as a whole of late is nowhere near it was last year. I'd say that Sanchez has progressed well this year overall, but the Jets "D" doesn't scare anyone lately.
that's what happens when we're aggressive in trading for players. lack of draft picks. i like being aggressive though. we get proven players.
It's awesome to be in the playoffs again. It really is. I'm just bummed about the overall year. Definitely my fault. I got caught up in the hype. I thought we'd build on last year by winning the division and getting a bye. I wanted/expected/hoped to go from AFC Championship to the Super Bowl. Rex had me buying in. Playoffs are great, and anything can happen, but a SB seems highly unlikely. Still, it's been a very fun year. Sure beats the 3-13, 1-15 years.
I'm very proud of our team. Anything can happen in the playoffs, and you've got to be in it to win it.
You beat me to it. Spot on. I'll settle for being an Indianapolis (OK, we're not in the 12-wins-per-season category yet) Giants or NE and making the play offs all/most of the time because those teams inevitably land the big one from time to time. Just once in my lifetime would be nice!!!!
rex is a smart man. when he came to ny, tanny was warned that rex loves DB's. And with the pass happy NFL with all the rule changes that favor QB's and receivers, rex is spot on. Rex traded for Crom, drafted wilson, and will continue his quest for another top DB. Yes, an 'LT' rushing the passer would be nice, but only 4-5 top DB's beats the Brady's of the world. Give Rex (and Sanchez) 1 more year to get to the top. Hell, he may even get us there this year!
I agree with most of what the original poster said except for "decimated by injuries". We are far from decimated. Ridiculous. For the most part, we've been very lucky this year as far as injuries go.
