I've been letting your argument go up until now. There are multiple ways to go about it, but making them run another play would have been the right way, and I bet you it is the way the vast majority of experienced coaches would have done it. Rex still has many things to learn, one of the huge issues being time management.

We lost from a bad throw from Sanchez? How could you sum up the game to one last desperate drive with less than a minute left? The ball was slightly underthrown, I really doubt it has anything to do with an injury....please. My personal inclination is we lost the ball due to not use Greene enough, piss poor defense (partly falls on Rex because clearly this is his forte), and losing the field position battle. (also falls partly on the coach)

Special teams was not impressive either. (Wilson botched up two big ST plays)

And last but certainly not least, why should he change his username? Abraham played 5 solid years for the Jets. Should everybody walk around with Revis and Sanchez jersey's on?

I tried to stay out of the argument because I don't like to necessarily choose sides but this post just did it for me.

It is getting old - anyone who defends Rex and does not see the need for improvement in game managing is drinking the green Kool Aid.

I will not go to the level of him being terrible because 2 straight playoffs speak for themselves but my gut tells me that this will eventually be the downfall of him. I hope I am wrong and he can be our coach for the next 10 years (that would mean success).

You may be right, but you have never ever ever made a positive post on this board in years. It goes back to the beginning of the decade and with you, the Jets have never had a good team, good coach, good QB, good game, or even a good play. I actually think you are Rich Cimini. Yes, it is frustrating to be a Jets fan, but the cranky old man routine that you bring to the table every time you post gets tired.

You're right. God should forbid it when the defense had already stopped Chicago all game and held them to a measly 38 points.

Pennington was a top QB in 2002, other than that you're correct on the QB/coaching situation for the Jets over the last 10 years.

This is the thing that is so frustrating. Game management has got to be the easiest thing to master in the NFL. Leading men, thinking up game plans, making in-game adjustments, etc. is very difficult and takes an incredible amount of preparation and knowledge and the right personnel. Understanding when to call timeouts should be the easiest thing to. All it takes is an understanding of the rules (that it's a :40 second play clock) and being able to do simple math.

When you call your last timeout after a first down run with 2:43 left is not a smart thing to do. You have to know that the next play will be run, take at least :03 seconds and that play (2nd down) will take it down to the 2:00 minute warning and you won't have any timeouts left. If you just keep your timeout and force them to run their 2nd down play prior to the 2:00 warning (since the first down run ended at 2:43 the Bears have to run another play before 2:00). Then you can use the last timeout after the third down play and give your offense another :40 seconds. If you do your homework then the call is easy. Whether the defense, offense, or ST does their jobs is not in the hands of the coaching staff. However, giving their units the best chance to succeed from a timing standpoint it.

That doesn't necessarily make things easier, but . . .

I don't know if people notice this or not, but the mods generally give a little more latitude when tempers are high after a loss. Doesn't mean there aren't still limits, though.

It is difficult to make split second decisions. The Jets are in the playoffs for the second time in to years. Yet Jets fans can bring out the negative in anything and it is just funny. People knock him but we could do no better ourselves. We are in the effing playoffs can't we just be happy with that. You have a point Rex does struggle with his management of games but he is still learning every game. Lets just be glad the Jets aren't 2-14.

The people that want to trash Rex overlook some key shit. Rex has his issues as a 2nd year HC. Anyone who is realistic would have expected some struggles (growing pains). I look at Rex the same way I look at Sanchez. Their mistakes should be pointed out and acknowledged but they aren't grounds for benching or firing because those struggles were to be expected from guys with no experience.

Anyone advocating Rex being fired after he has made the playoffs in each of his first two years, even with his struggles, is a complete moron. You all bitch about wanting a superbowl win like it is something that should just fall into your laps. It takes a shitload of work and a decent amount of luck to achieve. The first step in winning the superbowl is making the playoffs and Rex is 2-2 there.

If they don't win it this year then we need to expect that Rex will take this off season to learn from his mistakes and fix them moving forward. That is not say that year 3 should be mistake free because only an idiot would expect that nother human will not make mistakes.

The problem is that it really shouldn't come down to a split second decision. It's something that is a pretty easy thing to grasp if you put a little effort into it beforehand. It's not like he just go the sidelines - he's been there all his life. Understand how to treat personnel and have an overall game plan as a head coach should be new to him - game management should be pretty easy.

I don't think there are too many people here who believe that they can be a better coach than Ryan is. However, after the end of today's game and the play calling at the end of the first half last week I think that there are many who rightly think that Rex has to do a better job of preparing for these circumstances.

Wow He's been to the playoffs twice in his first 2 years and it's not like he took over the defending Superbowl champs here. wow some fans just are insane. and it's not like we lost to a bad team here.

I know there are extremes with the "Fire Rex" and those people are absolutely insane. I love Rex and think hes going to do great things for this organization.

That said this team hands down by has the worst time management in the ENTIRE NFL, and quite honestly the worst time management ive ever seen in my entire life from any team in any sport.

Almost every single week our coaching staff puts our team in the best position to lose, and thats why the jets have had a SHIT TON of games that go down to the very last play. Our coaching staff continues to fuck our team as hard as possible on a weekly basis and that in my opinion is gonna be our biggest hurdle to get to a superbowl.

Should we fire Rex absolutely not, but something DRASTIC needs to happen with this teams time management because games are hard enough to win when you have a 2nd year qb and absolutely no pass rush. Last thing we need is the coaching staff throwing more obstacles in the way every week.

And the people coming out and saying "Oh well xxx dropped a pass" are completely missing the point. Theres a big difference between making a mistake on the field when youre in the middle of play with tons of shit going on, and completely fucking your team before the ball is hiked.

Seriously its not that hard to manage the clock, make some fucking index cards before the game reminding you what to do when theres x amount of time on the clock with x time outs. It really is that simple, yet week in and week out the coaches fuck that up.

Kinda crazy that the worst game manager in the NFL has a 21-13 record.

I don't have any issue with most of your criticism. It may be a bit more extreme than I would go with but not a big deal.

The bolded it is just emotional bullshit. How many other teams do you watch on a weekly basis for the entire 60 minutes? I think I can answer that one...0. Making a claim like that is where you lose people like me. look around the league and you see many coaches screwing up the same "easy" decisions that Rex has issues with. This leads me to believe that things aren't nearly as easy as those of us sitting on the couch with a beer in hand would like to believe.

Rex is far from perfect but if he is going to make the playoffs every year he can stay for as long as he likes. Even the worst game manager in the entire league will probably get a lucky stretch of games if he makes the playoffs every single year.

I don't see where there's it's a mutually exclusive thing. You can say that he's a good head coach overall, but he;s a bad game time manger. What's so deranged to think that Rex is s good coach and that if he was better at managing the time during a game that he could be 24-10 - or even better?

Let's look at one key stat first - Rex took over a team that had faield to make the play offs two years on the trot. He's had a rookie QB to work with and then got the Jets into the play-offs 2/2, so let's not get too down on the guy.

That said, the sentiment that Rex can't manage the clock is correct. From Miami Week 5 last year to today, there are a number of examples of Rex not getting clock issues right.

In the way coaches have a chart saying when it's advisable to go for a 2 point conversion, surely someone can produce Rex a chart to illustrate what to do in situations based on time left, score and down situation.

In a lot of instances this sort of stuff can be quantified and assessed in advance so when you reach a certain situation in a game, the response is automatic.

Sounds like a good idea to me. If it's not something that comes natural to him (and we all have things that we naturally do well and things we naturally do poorly) then try to make it as automatic with a little outside help seems like a "natural" thing to do.
