Revis on a corner blitz. I noticed it in the game and had to rewind the DVR to make sure it was him. I know Rex has said in the past that he would never spare the best coverage corner in the game blitzing him, but I always said that Rex should do it every once in a while for the element of surprise. Anyone else notice? I seriously don't think I had seen that before since Rex has been here.

Or did anyone notice Calvin Pace running back on a blitz to play deep safety?

Reason I create this as its own thread is that both offensively and defensively we saw things in this game we havent seen before from the coaching staff. Seems like it finally hit them that they can't just run the same team, same game plan, same scheme out every week and expect to win. Finally saw some different looks. I think those two losses might actually have started the creative juices and opened up the playbooks and could very well help us in the playoffs.

Yep, I saw it when it happened, that was right before the altercation I believe...

I think we've done it before though.

We also have dropped LB'ers/DE deep into coverage before but that's something I hate to see

I also noticed he was covering there 3rd receiver a few times in that game. I think Rex is realizing he has to mix it up with Revis to maximize his value. Teams are pretty much just ignoring who he's covering at this point.

I thought Revis blitzed vs. Buffalo in Buffalo in 2008, stripped Losman (?) and recovered the ball. Granted, that wasn't Rex coaching, but...

Not sure exactly how covering their 3rd best received is maximizing his value. I'd much rather have them ignore their 1st or 2nd best receiver by not throwing his way then their 3rd best receiver.

Abram Elam. Not quite as good as Revis.

Revis also blitzed one time during the wildcard game last year.

i hated seeing revis on the 3rd wr. pretty sure big ben is a better qb to figure that 'surprise' out.

i think i saw revis blitz a few times durin the ravens game.

A lot of plays are designed to be quick hot reads to the slot receiving coming across the middle (example: Patriots offense). By switching up who Revis is covering, he could be taking away the number one target designed on that play, rather then just the best receiver. Quarterbacks are designed to read the play, rather then read which one of their players is the best, although they are also taught to read matchups.

Abe had the long INT return for a TD, revis did sack, strip and recover a fumble against the Buf QB in that game

This I understand, but I'd still be more comfortable with Coleman playing the slot receiver then risking him on the outside getting badly beaten by a top playmaker. I don't mind Revis being moved around on occasion though.

They started going to him quite a bit and then you noticed 24 on him. Maybe the gameplan was to call plays to get the #3 WR open and so they decided to take that away? Maybe Revis was showing he was on Ward and covering the #3 instead which caused Roethlis to ignore Ward and say oh fuck when he looked at the #3?

I don't know, it's a good question, but I think there are probably some reasonable answers.

Which is why NE got rid of Mandy Ross.
