I have to agree. I understand the attraction of going ground and pound, but the Jets could not run the ball on Miami. Pitt is better against the run, and is 23rd in the league against the pass. By comparison Miami is sixth. People can say what they like here, and I totally understand the concern about putting the ball in Sanchez's hands. But the OL is equally bad running the ball as in pass protection, so that's a wash. Meanwhile, as Ryan said, running it when you are getting 2.8 ypc is not productive, which is why they chose to pass against Miami. The Jets may well try and run it early, but if they can't gain ground, and get behind, I am virtually certain we will see them go in the air, and whatever results from that, so be it.
Pittsburgh is by far the best run defense in the league. Adding Vlad won't do shit to help us this week, I don't recall him being a "beast" anyway. If we were going to play around with Vlad, against the Steelers defense is not the appropriate time.
Haven't read the thread, but I will say this, and it may be a debated issue: in 2010, when healthy, Damien Woody was our best offensive lineman.
Or Nick Mangold, who is pretty much accepted as the best Center in football. He had one rough game after he got the shoulder injury and he got right back to man-handling defensive linemen.
Woody is definitely a huge loss, but I think the Jets have the physicality on defense to match the Steelers and beat them. A win on Sunday will do wonders for the team's psyche after all this crap.
Yep, unfortunately people aren't reading or understanding the OP...imagine that. Over reaction on TGG! hmy: The truth is we have to protect Mark and do it without being predictable. Lining up w/ the extra TE and the Extra Linemen allows us not only to Run the ball more effectively than a normal lineup but it also sets up the PLAY ACTION which is something that has to be effective vs an agressive defense. With them blitzing, we get Keller vs the LB'ers in space + Holmes/Bray 1 on 1 all WHILE GIVING MARK TIME because of the G&P Lineup, we'll have a great shot. THAT SAID, we don't have to do it 100% of the game, we need to spread them out every once in a while and ATTACK THE BLITZ which no matter which way we lineup will be the key to scoring points.
Your not running the football on the steelers. To beat them your going to have to pass the football all game. Jets try and stay true to running game today and they are going home with another loss. It time for Mark Sanchez to start playing like a franchise Qb.
"Rob Turner (22 snaps) provided more beef as an extra tight end" -ESPNNY Looks like the Jets agreed and put extra beef on the line (including a lot of Harstock and Mulligan throughout the game)
Thx Dwalsh. Nice to know someone will give kudos. I had noticed it during the game that Turner, Hartsock, pretty much every beef we had chipped in... I didn't even hear the names of any of any STEELERS front 7 except once when he got tackled.
Thx Ace, I don't think they activated Vlad but it was good to see us actually protecting the shit out of our QB! The injury may be a blessing in disguise...imagine that.
Vlad was active yesterday. He didn't see action but he was active. Its good to seem them baby stepping Vlad. He is a beast though.
Thx for the heads up. I never saw him on the field and didn't see the inactive list... and I agree, because his pass protection in preseason was just scary
Here we go again. This may be a blessing in diguise but IMO vs the PATRIOTS it limit us a little more than it did vs the STEELERS. We may have to take a few chances and Trust the replacements a little more than we did vs Pitt.
Hunter has to play as well as he did against the Bears. Actually, he has to play much better than that. Let's get him some help off the edge.
