http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/23360/simms-rough-game-ahead-for-sanchez The bold part is what made Sanchez so good late last year from the Colts game to the Colts game (get it?) They put him in situations to have lots of confidence and a rhythm. Can we get back to that? I don't know why it wasn't done last Sunday. It was the kind of game where you do that shit because of how well your defense is playing. Fucking Schotty.
Schotty puts Sanchez into terrible situations. And correct me if I am wrong, but I feel like he does it the most when Mark is struggling. Any time Sanchez has an INT or two, the next plays are RUN, RUN 3rd and 6. Not a good spot for a struggling QB to be in.
The situational playcalling thread noted how 2nd down seems to be a retard down for the game plans. That puts Sanchez in awful 3rd down situations. He begins to press and try to be a hero and mistakes ensue. Pretty simple equation.
I don't know why, for the life of me, we don't call more quick slants and fast post routes? We have the perfect personnel to run these types of plays. Shotty always has Sanchez throwing deep passes, which would be alright if we mixed in more quick passes. Throwing the bomb every 3 plays is not conducive to this offense's success. Anybody with any rudimentary knowledge of football should know that. Even a simple bubble screen thrown to Cotchery or B. Smith into a trips formation. The Pats have been running this play for a decade now and seem to get at least 10 yards everytime.
The other thing is, those plays on 1st and 2nd downs are just handoffs run between the tackles. I'd have less of a problem with that if we were running some sweeps or a pitch out. Greene and Tomlinson are the perfect backs to run these types of runs with, and all it ever seems to be are simple handoffs right into the line.
True, that has also been a problem. The same exact runs every drive. Then the occasional Wild Cat play to totally get Sanchez out of rhythm. Pittsburgh has a good run defense and their best safety and overall player likely out. What will Schotty do? RUN UP THE MIDDLE!!!
I see sanchez pulling himself up a little this week, as unlikely as that may seem. Bigblocker posted some interesting tables in another thread about sanchez's stats through the year so far, and he seems to have three bad games in a row, and then three good games. This isn't promising for the playoffs, but they can deal with that when they get there.
Exactly...we have pretty fucking quick backs. Get a head of steam going and have Sanchez pitch the ball out. Seemed to work pretty good last year. This Schitt head is always trying to re-invent the wheel and it hurts us...BIG TIME. Pisses me off.
He is a good young QB who has hit a rough spot. This happens. He can work himself out of it w/the help of his teammates and his CS. Lately it seems like his teammates and his CS have been letting him down. I have a feeling that they are going to play well in Pittsburgh and that Mark is going to have a good game.
He had 5 good games in a row from week 16 to the AFCCG. He can do it again, it would mean a 11-5 record too which is what we all signed up for.
MS has shown that in clutch times he excels when he is left in control of the offense so maybe MS problems go back to a guy named Shotty & RR maybe should consider junking Shotty & allow MS to call his own plays as radical as that sounds :jets:
That is actually a GREAT point. He has struggled, but no one has helped him out on the way. If the WR's made great catches, or even caught the ones thrown right to them, it would help. If the play calling was better, better protection from the offensive line, etc. This is not all on Sanchez. Not even close. True. 2 drives, 2 touchdowns. Then he told Schotty it was easy or something.
Part of this is definitely on Schotty; if you see your QB is struggling you need to try and make things a bit easier for him. However, Sanchez has to be man about this and work himself out of his funk. Eli has had his WRs let him down numerous times this year and just keeps on throwing and giving them chances to make plays. Peyton has the same issue due to injuries. Sanchez isn't getting all the help he should from his WRs & coaching, but there has to be some blame he shoulders for not working himself out of his slump. I know he's a 2nd year QB, but do you mean to tell me that he never had rough patches in high school or colleges? If he can't work himself out of a rough patch without help then the Jets have an issue on their hands that is much more serious than the current offensive slump.
I would have to agree with you on that. All the more reason to play some percentage plays in the beginning to get his rhythm back. Then look out!
What do you think will give him confidence? Easy passes? Sanchez messed up a screen pass last week, and several of his passes to WR's running a slant were batted down. He's going to end up in 3rd and long eventually. Confidence has to come from within himself. It's a personality trait, not something that can be given to him by the coaching staff. Sanchez can't throw bad passes like he did 10+ times against Miami. I still have faith that Sanchez can develop, but it's going to be cold tomorrow and we're going up against Pittsburg. I'm scared about how Sanchez will play.
all sanchez has to due is claim his earpiece inside is helmet isn't working then calls his own plays and cut shotty out of the picture.
