I appreciate it makes no difference to the season at hand, but given Pool and Smith's inconsistencies and Ihedigbo's limitations, would anyone show an interest in Donte Whitner if he hit the open market? http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/23316/whitner-displeased-with-contract-talks I know he hasn't exactly pulled up trees in Buffalo, but when I've seen him he looks to me like the sort of player who in the right system could be a hell of a useful weapon.
the problem is that with so manyofour own guys needing to be re-done,there won't be alot left to get f.a.
If Jets can hold onto their FAs first, then plucking him out of Buffalo would be a good idea. One less hold to fill in the draft - especially since the Jets are essentially out of a good SS since Sherry left. As long as the holes in DL/Pass-rushing OLB/Safety are filled, I don't care how they are filled.

He's been decent lately. Ryan wants a safety to call the plays. He's the best safety we have right now.
Leonhard's loss was huge as it pushed all safeties up the depth chart. Losing Dig was also big. He came with consistent pressure whenever he blitzed. Hope someone can fill his shoes.
No he was benched for not knowing the system and poor communication. So it is perfectly acceptable to put him in charge of calling plays.
He played well but that doesn't mean he suddenly has the defense down pat. He was benched for not knowing it iirc.
