Sanchez 2.0 is improved over Sanchez 1.0 but the inconsistency hasn't changed. Besides getting back to the basics I think Rex needs to keep quiet and let your team play. Although he is entertaining, Rex puts a lot of additional pressure on your team and that is not good for a second year QB with less then 50 NFL and college starts. At times Sanchez ball placement is perfect but as you know his accuracy is erratic. He doesn't have the strongest arm and playing in the elements of winter up there can be tough. I'm not sold on him being a franchise QB the same way I know Henne isn't. But the Jets have a lot invested in him to be the man so I expect them to be a lot more patient.
his arm stregth is more than fine. he can make all the throws in the NE weather. The onlly concern I have about Sanchez at this point is his mental toughness. This is where Schottenheimer needs to do a better job getting Sanchez into a rhythem early and get him some confidence.
I can't argue with the erratic accuracy because their is merit to that, he has the tendency to be off game to game. But I would give him another year before beginning to question his future as a franchise QB. This is alot to put on a second year QB, but if he can get through this year and just make improvements, the pressure he faced will be good for his future confidence. He will be used to the high level expected of him.
I agree about the basics. He's got a much stronger arm than Chad did. But his mental toughness concerns me. Football is in large measure about how you deal with adversity, when things do not go according to plan, how you adjust, where you find the will and ability to win when things are going crazy all around you. How does Mark do in those situations? Certainly not has it been all bad. He's gotten it done multiple times. It's the inconsistency we are having to face, and that's why the team is on a losing streak.
Trade Sanchez to the Redskins for Haynesworth and McNabb. Both have very cap friendly deals. The Redskins were interested in drafting Sanchez originally. Adding Haynesworth to the Jets D line.. I think Rex could get him to play Adding McNabb would give the Jets a Vetran QB that throws a great deep ball. He is obviously dis interested in playing for Shanny. Sanchez is a war weather QB. It's no coincidence that once the weather turned and opposing defense took the run away that the offense disappeared. Teams are daring Sanchez to beat them. Besides.. He did not play that long in college. He is probably mentally exhausted.. I think McNabb could give the Jets the leadership needed on offense. The man has no running game and no receivers in Washington.. The problem is the Jets are built to win now... not wait for a QB to develop.
Part of it, I think, is that the kid is only 24 years old and just hasn't ever experienced adversity. He was something like 28-1 as a starter in high school, and 15-2 as a USC starter. It wasn't often that he had to bounce back.
Why is that? Because I said trade Sanchez? When the Jets drafted Sanchez they presumed that they were retooling... maybe 2- 3 years away.. All of a sudden last year they get a couple of bounces and breaks and they make it to the championship game. They were 30 minutes from going to the super bowl. Now they have to change their thinking. We are a win now team. Maybe was it fools gold that they got to the championship game? I mean if the Colts and bengals don't rest their players, the Jets might not win and get in. If that happened in turn the Jets are 7&9 and in the "process" (mangenius) of retooling while developing their new QB. Unfortunately the championship game has now raised the bar faster and higher than originally placed. Placing more pressure on the QB. Sanchez has not progressed fast enough. Say what you want.. I want a Super Bowl while the window is open. The window does not stay open long. Waiting for Sanchez to develop might cost the Jets a shot at the Lombardi trophy.
It is retarded to trade Sanchez, but just for the sake of argument, even if we EVER wanted too....trading him for McNabb and Haynesworth would almost be as retarded as trading him.

As far as Sanchez goes I was ok with drafting him, but I wanted Jeff Garcia to sign with the Jets and have Sanchez hold the clipboard and learn from Garcia. Hell with Garcia playing last year, who knows...maybe he could have been our Trent Dilfer?
Most likely that's a factor. I've had a pretty cushy life for the most part myself, but I recognize in lots of people I admire how often they've had problems they've had to deal with, and did deal with, before they were able to succeed further down the road in life. I think that's because such people already know they've faced adversity before and know they at least will have a fighting chance when it comes up again, that they won't be wondering about what's inside themselves, and can focus on what they are facing. Maybe here's where Mark can think back to some of those come from behind wins earlier this year, or going out to SD and beating the odds last year. So I don't think he's never faced adversity, just not so much, and not near so much as I think he's facing now. Even that SD game, for example, was kind of like playing with house money.
i'm still curious about mcknight. I want to see what he can do with ample opportunity. I know he came to camp out of shape and hasn't seen anything past kickoff this year aside from a couple screens but if he is going to be our next leon washington and we cut danny woodhead for him then he needs to see the field.
He's made his bones on special teams. Its where most mid rounders begin their careers before they take on the role of their position. He'll get his chances. He has the explosiveness, but he had a lot of bad habits in college that he had to correct. Once they are corrected, he'll be a part of this offense.
