The one thing that really points to coaching more than anything other than W/L is discipline. This team is severely lacking discipline. Time after time they have very untimely, unnecessary penalties, are out of position, not in synch. Yesterday, on defense at the goal line they had 9 guys on the field and had to burn a time out, 9 guys! Rex needs to get his act together QUICKLY! I think he has the makings of a good coach, but he really needs to learn how to be a head coach. Right now, he acts like a defensive coordinator with a big mouth.
They play for good time Charlie. Players coaches and nice guys ultimately fail in this league. Eventually, teh inmates will run the prison. Remember, 95% of these guys would be in jail if not for football.
This was a team that was eating cheeseburgers on the field, you expect discipline? week in and week out we have committed bonehead penalites and dropped easy passes. We have a HC w/ zero accountability.
Here's where Rex, if he has any leadership skills at all, will need to use all of them. Out of all of the upsetting things I saw last night and read this morning, the story about the defense all bordering on revolt is the most disturbing.
Absolutely, he did a good job last year keeping the team together during tough times. W/ less high charcter guys in the LR this is going to be an even bigger test.
Well with some of these penalties it isn't really about coaching...Does a coach really need to tell Hartsock not to hold and not to facemask a defender?
well when you attack the defense as if they didnt play well, in a game where they limited the passing to what, 34 yards, how do you expect them to act ? Rex wanted 0 points, he didnt get it but it sure isnt the defense fault for the lost yesterday.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the trip on the sidelines. That was about as "undisciplined" as it gets. Maybe firing that guy would be a good way to make an example without hurting the team too much.
