Anybody wishing for more Kerry Rhodes should probably find some old Jets game online or something. The only thing he would have changed against the Pats is that we would have been watching a much more expensive safety run after the Pats TE's.
They actually traded Rhodes for a fourth (and a 2011 7th). They then traded that fourth and a 2010 6th for Joe McKnight. They got good value for a player the coaching staff obviously hated but they didn't find an adequate replacement, let alone find good depth.
Kerry Rhodes was not buying what Rex Ryan and the coaching staff was selling. He would have gotten smoked by TEs this year too.
It's not so much that they let him go, since I thought he was not getting it done, as that the FO did not really get anyone very good to replace Rhodes. Leonhard was not Rhodes's replacement. In effect Pool was/is, and he does not impress.
We could have Ed Reed back there and still get torched with this passrush. A lot of Monday night's defensive problems could be attributed to Brady's comfort in that pocket, which seemed to never collapse. Lowery wouldn't make much difference imo.
Sherry? Are you trying to make him sound like a girl? LOL, he already has a girl's name. Kerry did play TEs very well last year, especially in the playoffs (Gates and Dallas Clark). Lowery has actually played well for us this year, in his role of shared playing time. He was our starting corner in 2008 believe it or not. I agree, he can't be any worse than Eric Smith at safety.
Why not give Wilson a shot? You generally want your first round pick to see the field more than Wilson has. We know that he has tremendous athletic ability. Time to let him use it. Sitting behind Pool and Smith will probably give him more of a chance to play than waiting for a nickel or dime situation behind Revis and Cromartie. It'll take away the problems he's been having with turning his head around as well.
Teams are starting to pick up this blitz scheme, and with a QB like Brady, he looked like a point guard distributing the ball to ALL his receivers, setting them up for the big finish. I wonder what he YAC stat was for them the other night. I knew the fact that we don't have a guy that can get pressure without the blitz would hurt us. Now without Jimmy, it looks even worse.
The question is, how does Rex fix the problem, and it IS a problem. Like he said in his post-game press conference, this is a copy cat league and now the cat is out of the bag about what hurts the Jets defense the most.
So you would like Lito Sheppard back? Cromartie is not the problem with the defense. He's not the greatest tackler but we knew that coming in. He has put in the effort though.
My thought exactly. The D line deserves a swift kick in the ass by Rex. And no snack till you get a sack.
What's even more concerning is that RR was trying different shit @NE. All the zone-blitzing we did didn't do shit, and the overload hasn't worked all season long. We just straight up can't push the pocket.... The secondary has been hung out to dry all year long basically. Taylor, BT, and Pace are all not getting it done. I don't want to see Taylor or BT (don't care how good he is against the run) on this team next year, they are JAGs at this point.
Really?? Cromartie has given up the odd play here and there but this one's on the passrush. There's no coincidence that when we've beaten NE you've seen Brady running around for his life, and when he's carved us up his jersey is clean.
