You are looking at i wrong though. Say you have the Panthers current offense and your current defense. You would lose every game. A defense that bad without a offense on that team averaging 30 points a game would be the makings of a bad team. Again, we are a nightmare team for you because we do both well now, hence the 28-14 week 2 loss.
Actually, Jets are better than Patriots in red zone scoring defense. Both are pretty bad. http://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/opponent-red-zone-scoring-pct Patriots ranked 26th, Jets 21st. Pwned.
You've also said this is the toughest game of the year for the Jets. This isnt' true. The Baltimore and Green Bay games were the toughest games of the year for us. And if you notice those were defensive battles, which the Pats are not geared for this year. And that is the problem with this game for the Patriots, the Jets will force them into a defensive battle... a defensive mismatch that they will not be able to respond to.
seeing as both teams start games tied at zero points, and both teams choose to defer the ball given the choice, you would think that the "points allowed while tied" numbers would be more telling if the pats defense sucked as much as you say.
Wow, what a great point... based on that one game, the pats and jets must both have completely average offenses. I guess this argument is over!
The Jets offense has struggled in the first half, and especially the first quarter of games. I suspect if you looked at the points scored per quarter the Patriots would be heavily favored in the 1st quarter.
That's just 1 drive, for the Jets we rarely allow points in the first quarter. FG's at best, the Lions were the first to score a TD on us in the 1st quarter, with Stafford and Best playing that is. As mentioned above, a shitty defense can be hidden behind a good offense, but only for so long.
I don't remember saying that... why do you guys insist on bringing unrelated arguments into every thread?
The average offense has scored 28 points against us according to him. Since you guys scored 28, you must be average. Same for the Pats against the Jets.
Look, you're running around trying to avoid every last obvious bit of data anyone throws your way. Unless you can admit that the Pats have no business being favored in this game then yeah, this argument is over. Forget what the oddsmakers say, you are an underdog here. Even though you're at home, you're the underdog.
The only saving grace for the Pats defense is that they've managed to force turnovers at the right time. While that's certainly a credit to them, teams that rely on those turnovers to finish on defense are typically very inconsistent on that side of the ball. The turnovers won't always be there. The #1 scoring offense is carrying you.
You don't remember saying it but do you agree with it? Do you agree that the Jets will force the Pats into a defensive battle in this game? Can you win a game like that?
I think you've lost your argument here. It's totally understandable the Patriots are favored. They're at home, Brady never loses at home - that's the one factor that really makes them the favorite, because otherwise these are even teams.
On average you give up that much, that average sucks for a defense but to average that on offense would be great.
The Pats defense is only slightly less pathetic than the average Pats fan. Rather than twisting the twisting the stats to make you feel better, just go to NFL.com and check the rankings. They pay people that are good and unbiased to keep track of the shit. Pats defense, last in the AFC, second worst in the whole NFL according to their statistics. Now go back into the closet with Tom Terrific.
