With safety already being one of if not the biggest weaknesses on our team is there anyone on the open market we could pick up ?

Especially if our safeties have a tough time vs Brady and co I could see Tanny looking to add someone.

What are our best options ? What about that guy from the 49ers, did he ever resign anywhere ? Or do you think Ihedigbo/Smith/Pool are all were gonna have from here on out even with their injury problems (Pools always injured, Smith/Ihedbo have been banged up)

I honestly feel that the best way to go is to slowly switch Lowery into a safety. I think thats where he fits best. What's his biggest weakness? Lining up one on one at the line with a receiver and running down the sideline with him. Besides that (which is obviously BIG for a cornerback), I really think he is effective in the zone schemes and he obviously makes plays. Maybe its too late in the season to do that, but I definitely see it as a good move for the future.

I am with the Lowery switch as well. If Eric Smith is as smart as those articles claim (which I doubt, btw) then he will have Lowery lined up at where he needs to be.

This isn't the MLB or the NBA.

You can't just plug in some random guy off a couch or practice squad and expect him to make an impact.

We've already had some coverage breakdowns this year, what would happen with some guy days into the system?

I will always remember him for picking off Rothlisberger in the 04 playoffs and taking it back like 85 yards for a TD.

heard Donnie Abraham is available I'm sure he wouldn't mind switching to safety since his speed has surely declined in his old age.

No one is out there that can step in and perform as far as I'm aware.

I think Eric Smith will take over Leonhard's duties as he probably has the most experience of: Ihedigbo, Pool, and Lowery in this defensive scheme. I think Lowery and Ihedigbo get increased playing time with Lowery playing a hybrid CB/S role and dig at a hybrid LB/S spot to rush Brady. That terminology may not be correct but that's what I see happening.

As far as the entire defense goes I think it'll be a mix of the conventional 3-4 set on first and second down but we'll see a 4 man front with 2 LB and a slew of DBs in passing situations.

We're definitely going to need Lowery to spend some more time at safety because Pool, Smith, and Dig certainly aren't enough (depth-wise).
