You can't assume that if he didn't throw those 7 to Moss, that he would have made 7 completions elsewhere.
He had 3 touchdowns and 72 yards vs Pitt. He also had 5 catches for 65 yards vs Detroit, so I don't quite understand that statement. Granted he didn't have a great game against Indy but he had two good games in the past 3.
Once Revis is on Welker...He's in defacto Zone coverage. See above. It's odd how no one want to address the fact that without Moss to Drag Revis down the field, putting him on Welker puts 8 in the box and makes Revis a Zone defender...
No I don't think Welker will turn into Jerry Rice, I just think that him and Brady have enough short routes that are virtually undefendable, that he will get some targets and he will make some catches. TBH i don't even think that Revis will cover welker for more than 1/3 of snaps. If it were up to me I would have Wilson on Welker, Cromartie on Hernandez/Gronk, and Revis on Branch... and then it is just a matter of making sure Welker gets tackled at the LOS where he is usually catching the ball; easy enough for wilson/linebackers to handle right? (jk, it's not, but it sounds good)
Good point. Patriots WRs are so much better now without Randy Moss! They have 3 white midgets, an old Deion Branch, and rookie Tight Ends!!! (Before Patriots fans start bitching about this...... /sarcasm)
No, not 7, but he can certainly make higher percentage throws to other recievers, as demonstrated by the fact that he was throwing 22.2% complete to moss, 66.6% to everyone else.
Still Randy Moss. He made an unbelievable catch in the first half and talked about how he was fired up and that the Jets were gonna get "this slouch" for 60 minutes. He also caught 2 TDs the week after. That's just what he does when he gets the ball thrown in his direction. Never mind his ability to draw double coverages to open things up for the underneath guys I understand the point you're making but I don't see how your offense is exponentially better without him in the lineup. And the Jets present unique matchup problems with the corners that other teams don't. Revis takes out Welker probably, Cro takes out Branch. Gronkowski probably stays in to block more often than usual. Hernandez and Tate are still problems but Wilson has been good on the TE and Tate can be doubled deep if need be.
I know you guys aren't really this stupid (at least I hope), but I'm going to spell this out one more time: It is not the recievers who are "better", it is a gameplan that is more effective. Before Belichick/Brady forced throws to Moss (yes our best reciever at the time) into revis coverage, double coverage, triple coverage, anything. Now Belichick/Brady makes a conscious effort to spread the ball around and find open recievers, which results in a offense that is less predictable and harder to defend, albeit less explosive and less sexy on paper.
This explains why his completion percentage is less than it was when he had Moss to throw to. W/Moss 85 122 .696 Wout/Moss 151 234 .645
and yes I saw the /sarcasm, but I have also seen about 15 other posts saying essentially the same thing
Revis and Cromartie can make Welker and Branch a non factor. The Jets are a top 3 rush defense. The only matchups that really worry me are Hernandez and Tate. Gronkowski to a lesser extent because I think (may be wrong) he's their best blocker at the TE position I'd imagine they'd want him in to block the Jets blitz packages. Tate can be doubled deep. Hernandez presents a problem but for all his struggles Wilson has been pretty decent against the TE.
No it doesn't, but 4 games isn't a huge sample size especially when 2 are against cincinatti and buffalo defenses.
I understand what you're saying, but the statistics say otherwise. In the game where he had 2 TDs, I believe those were his only receptions. I think the offense sputtered a little momentarily after the Moss trade trying to find its identity but has really kicked into another gear the last few weeks. Yes the field isn't stretched as much without Moss, but Branch (and Tate a tiny bit) have caught some long passes from Brady recently. In addition we have a lot of guys that can run short to middle very precise routes that I feel ill be hard for a stretch the field CB like Cromartie to cover. I'm sure Revis will take out someone but there is no clear number 1 like there was before to take out. If you look at the receiving statistics for Brady's receivers they are strikingly close: Deion Branch: 46 Rec 545 Yards 4 TDs Wes Welker: 65 Rec 592 Yards 6 TDs Aaron Hernandez: 36 Rec 462 Yards 3 TDs Rob Gronkowski: 25 Rec 310 Yards 6 TDs Brandon Tate: 18 Rec 301 Yards 1 TD Danny Woodhead: 24 Rec 230 Yards 1 TD Thats a lot of different guys that you will have to gameplan against. Among the first four listed, they all have the ability to be the number 1 guy on any given day. You guys have a great CB duo but I just don't think it will be that easy to shut all of these guys down. Its just my opinion. Have at me.
IN this specific case REVIS coverage. Man up one on one. I'll keep asking.....Please refrain from drooling on your untied shoelaces while you formulate a reply.....
That's a fair point, but he's still throwing the ball at a lower completion percentage than in any year that he had Moss. Those years were the best completion percentages of his career. He also faced the Jets D in those 4 games.
5 of those guys average less than 12 yards a catch. How does forcing the Revis into Zone ocverage benefit you?
