Alot of people seem to be talking alot about the rookies and I dont blame you, I am excited too, but just for discussion ill give u some players not talked about that much tat could come up really big......

Andre Maddox - Last year it was him or Kerry Rhodes and he got hurt. He is said to be a huge hitter and he could steal the job.

Justin Miller - If he developes, wow, he could be a star corner

Derrick Strait - Herm is gone so could be more than a permanent nickel

Chad Pennington - Personally, I think he will have a huge year

Jerricho Cotchery - Could be nuber 2 reciever

Justin Mccareins - Might boucne back

Nobody ever talks about Chad Pennington. I know that is true.

And what is with McCareins bouncing back? He just needs to bounce. :)

I honestly have no faith in McCariens, I dont see him doing anything for us, he drops too many passes, he doesnt run good routes and he isnt physical, I think reciever is a big need in a future draft(Possibly next year).

    I agree. I don't see him as anything but a #3 receiver.

I also have very high hopes for Maddox- apparently he can really hit from the secondary and could be a player. I'm already sold on Miller's kick return skills, and think he can be an above average corner in the league. As for Penny, I'm very hopeful, because with all honesty, our season depends on him.

I personally am not sold on Miller. He's pretty solid with kickoff returns, but as for punt returns he is garbage. He may show promise at corner, but not yet. One of his biggest qualms was that he is "uncoachable."

I do have high hopes for him though.

I meant the secondary in general...but at CB we've got Miller, Dyson, and Barrett as 3 good corners.

As far as secondary/corners we are still in big trouble. I saw some o.k. things out of Barrett (some flashes if you will) the season before last.

i'm really interested in the battle among Coleman/Maddox/Smith.

the year we drafted Maddox from NC St., they were one of (if not the) top Defenses in the country. their front 7 was dominant so the secondary didn't get much attention; but Maddox played well as SS. the only thing he lacks is elite speed to go along with his physical play (i.e. Sean Taylor), which hopefully he'll compensate for in other ways.

i want to follow this position battle closely because I really have no clue what Mangini is looking for at S in the new system, besides someone cerebral.

    cheers

My guess would be that Coleman and Rhodes are the starters, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Washington play a lot of games either.

and btw, just insert : beer : with no spaces...that works better....

    Alot of optimistic posts recently...

On Maddox, he's coming off a blown out knee, and has an uphill battle to even be a backup, more so will be a special teamer to me...Rhodes/Coleman, with Washington and Smith the backups IMO...

On Strait, well to me the loser of the Miller/Barrett job gets the Nickel CB, so who knows.

Pennington. Well, I really hope he is our starter and bounces back to be a solid QB...But to say he'll have a huge year, ehh...He'll have an average run game, pretty much 1 target(Coles) so it's gonna be tough.

And i'll re-raise All-In that Kerry Rhodes will start in 08'.

  20. Miller and Rhodes are both ultra athletic guys who have a chance to be special. Both showed alot of promise their rookie years and if they continue to develop could be fixtures in our secondary for a very long time.
