Saw this on theJetsBlog.. The bad news first, Damien Woody did not practice and was limping noticeably after playing all four quarters of the Bengals game on Thursday with an MCL sprain in his right knee. He said, “Usually this is a four-six week injury.” As to whether he had a setback, the answer appears to be yes. “It’s like going back to square one,” he said. He’s been rehabbing and getting treatment every day. Whether or not he is ready to play on Monday night is still in question. He says he will. We’ll see. ------------- Would be really bad news to have to use Wayne Hunter this week as the RT against the Pats in such a big game. Looks like playing last week on a short week may not have been the best decision. I'm sure Woody will give it a go, hopefully we can get a whole game out of him.
Cimini posted a similar quote as well but this seems to me to be a case of someone taking a quote out of context to help with his story. I read the full quote in the Jenny Vrentas article and it doesn't sound half as bad: http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2010/11/rt_damien_woody_sits_out_pract.html
Although Wayne Hunter did a decent job fillin in against Houston. We need that whole front 5 intact against NE.I was afraid the cincy game would be a setback.
Wayne Hunter got destroyed against Houston. Granted, NE doesn't have a pass rusher like Mario Williams, but Belicheck will definitely come up with a way to exploit him. The full quote from Woody does make it sound a lot better though. He won't be 100% probably for the rest of the season, but an 80% Damien Woody is better than most at 100%
Wayne Hunter did ok at times for bei up against one of the leagues best pass rushers.Of course Belicheck of all people would definately find a way to exploit him and like you said thats why we need Woody even if hes 80%
I was hoping he wouldn't play Thursday night, we didn't need him for the Bengals. He will still play Monday Night...he finished the game.
It was funny to see Mike Mayock and his crew, who love the Jets this year, rave about Hunter and then proceed to show precisely one play where he held his block.
Damien is tough, I'll be shocked if he msises the game but w/ that said he should have sat out against Cincy.
what irritated me about Big Wood and the Cincy game is not that he played, but that he played the whole game. Once we had it in hand after Brad KR, I would have pulled Woody to let him heal up. If Hunter couldnt get it done, then Wood could have gone right back in. But at least give him the opportunity to rest once the game was in our hands.
I do think its funny how the board went nuts saying "every time Hunter pass blocks he gets beat!!" and then they show a play where he was perfect.
