Wasn't this what everyone was saying before the week 2 game, but the other way around? All I heard from fellow Pats fans was that Holmes and Ellis were out. Revis was ding'ed up, Sanchez was playing terribly, the Jets had just got beat by Baltimore... The Pats had just spanked Cincy.... This was all I heard. According to the stats, the Pats should have "destroyed" the Jets in that game. What happened? The Jets won handily. Stats don't matter. The previous week doesn't matter. Previous matchups don't matter. Nothing matters. What matters is who wins on Monday night, and nothing in the past can have any bearing on that. Stats are ridiculous - all they tell you is what has happened in the past, not what's going to happen in the future. Your entire argument in flawed beyond belief. The Pats could come out and win on Monday night, or vis-versa, but whatever happens, stats and irrelevant facts will not determine the outcome.
The Patriot offense is obviously a big reason for the 9-2 record but the defense deserves a good deal of the credit too. Yes that last in the league in all categories defense. They've played well, even very well in spurts and given the offense time to do it''s magic. People who just want to number crunch will miss that. One hope for this Pats fan is that he'll make some early mistakes I don't see many Patriots fans saying otherwise. The Jets are for real. One reason this game is so compelling.
Also, don't forget the Jets have not lost on the road yet this season and have not experienced a nice ass kicking to a division rival yet this season!
Your rookies, your rookies, your rookies... Somehow you think your rookies are going to spike the ball in Darelle Revis face? Somehow they are going to dominate a freak of nature like Antonio Cromartie? Sure your rookies are playing better, but can they play to All-Pro level? Because that's what it's gonna take to beat the kind of players you're talking about here. Are your rookie DB's gonna tee off on Superbowl MVP Santonio Holmes? Are they gonna burn Braylon Edwards on a deep route? Are they gonna stop future Hall of Famer Ladainian Tomlinson? You're talking about some big guns here... do you really think your rookies are gonna win the battle against these guys? Niether do I.
Don't forget the over the hill Deion Branch and that throw off Woodhead. Can this group of 1 and 2 years players even walk on the same field as the star-laden Jets and win? Sure.
Not true at all... The stats don't matter in Week 2, but they mean a whole lot in Week 12. By the time Week 10 rolls around the stats pretty much tell you who you are. Saying the stats don't matter is like saying the medical tests your doctor ran last week don't matter. The stats matter alright, and they mean something, even if you don't like what they say.
Lets not forget the 6(?) interceptions those 3 quarterbacks tossed. edit: and i think 2 of those were returned for TD's.
Week 2 Tom Brady QB Rating - 72.5 Completion % - 55.5 TD's - 2 INT's - 2 Yards - 248 Yards/Attempt - 6.9 Wins - 0 Mark Sanchez QB Rating - 124.3 Completion % - 70 TD's - 3 INT's - 0 Yards - 220 Yards/Attempt - 7.3 Wins - 1
Anyone can make the argument that either team is better....but how are the Patriots* a "much better team" ?
Dude, give it a rest. I am confident in the Jets ability to win this game but you bring being a homer to an all new level.
Statistics would have given the Super Bowl to the 2007 Patriots or the 68 Colts for that matter but you play the games for a reason. We'll know more next Monday night.
well i know the records are equal but ive watched every pats and jets game. their offense is efficient innovative and generally well called. i mean there beginning to run the ball fairly effectively and brady goes without saying. I know their defense isnt what it used to be. But scoring is the new nfl and they certainly can score with the best of them. I dont think there light years better than the jets or anything. We are certainly a good team its just that right now the difference is the play calling and the qb play and brady and that offense is a bit more consistent and efficient. But if the jets D plays well like the week 2 game and the offense plays smart and we run the ball well, control the clock, then the jets can definitely win. eventually maybe not this year but soon we will need to become great at passing the ball. In my own personal belief you can not be truely elite nowadays until you have a high powered pass offense. and until we can do that we probably wont be able to become a year-in year-out contender
As a UK-based fan I'm always fascinated that Americans (and I don't say this in a sarcastic or a mean way) differentiate between regular and post seasons in all the main sports. Brady and the Patriots got their asses handed to them on a plate by Baltimore in January of this year. How is that this is not mentioned with this Brady stat? In fact, you could argue that the Patriots are not unbeaten with Brady, rather that they are 0 for 1 in big home games in 2010!! Don't get me wrong, the Jets also have an ongoing run i.e. the 8 straight (or is it 9 now?) road wins....but this stat ignores the two wins and one loss in the play offs. To my mind the Jets are 11 from the last 12 on the road - I don't see why the play offs count. So on a general level (and I know baseball is the same) why is the post season disregarded when stats are talked about?
How is that any different than continually pointing out how poor Sanchez played vs. the Bengals despite winning the game??
because brady has proven over the past 10 years to be the most succesful post season QB so 1 loss does not matter. also, this is a WEEK TO WEEK league, which means anything that happened last week or at the beginning of the season does not matter. teams who get burned one week come back strong the following week, etc. football is a sport that relies more on game planning than other sports which rely more on talent. so if the coaching staff puts in a better game plan the second time around or notices something in the first meeting that would cause them to make adjustment, it can have a significant effect the second tme the teams meet. let me give you an example. in 2003, the patriots lost 31-0 to buffalo. everyone thought the pats were a joke and that their 2001 crown was a fluke. they went onto not only beat the bills later that season by the same score but also won the super bowl. ur fellow jets fans seem to think that beating the pats once automatically means that 1) the jets match up well and 2) will beat them handily the second time around.
Besides, the Pats are a team. They all believe in the same goal. Every other team is just a collection of players. But once you put on that Patriots jersey, you become special, a part of a much larger collective. Every other group of players is just that, not a real team. The Pats are special.
