i was at a game couple years back and i saw bubba franks drop his tin on the side line and it spilt everywhere. He got flustered and tried to rub it into the turf. So i think its frowned upon during the game for obvious reasons. It was funny none the less.
It is amazing how many football players dip. White AND Black! Down in the south it is highly common for high school and college players to dip. Surprisingly many big men use it.
