Goggles off - we needed to put Houston away. Fumble killed the momentum... but it's a long ass season, and you only need to get hot at the end. It can only get better!
Lol if you hate airplanes so much maybe you shouldnt be a JET fan. I like the airplane dance its something different our team can do.
I was pondering about this last night. I think why all of us Jets fans think we have a great team right now is because we know our team's full potential based on the talent level is good enough to beat anyone in the league. Seeing these wins is exciting and tells us our team has the drive and mental toughness to win tough games. We know (or hope) that our team will eventually reach its potential and once that happens it will be time to take our second championship. But taking the Green Goggles off, this team as of right now isn't performing that well. To make this into an analogy as of right now I see this as a team in the WAC conference like Boise State. The fans and the players themselves only know how good they are. It is only until we beat a team like the Steelers or the Patriots (again) that we will know how Good we actually are. Are we a mediocre team with alot of toughness that knows how to pull out a win? Or are we a great team that occassionally plays down to weaker competitions level of play but when the pressures on will proceed to show greatness?
Through 10 games last year we were 4-6, but we had the ever so dominating defense that did nothing for us record wise. Mark had thrown 16 of his 20 interceptions and only 10 TD's as opposed to his 15 TD's and 7 INT's through 10 games this year. The stat I most care about on defense is points allowed, at the end of 09 we lead in that category by only allowing 14.8 points, right now we are allowing 17.7, so less than 3 points away from what we did last year. Personally I'll take the Sanchize developing into a top QB and our defense doing a similar job to last season. Our defense has had some bad 4th quarters, Rex can fix that. That is just a matter of staying focused to the end. Like MARK!
I keep thinking that Rex is holding back on blitzes purposely until needed. They just don't seem to dial it up as much as they did last year. Two things that bother me.. 1. No pass rush 2. Late game defensive lapses.
right now I think the offense looks good enough to win it all, but the defense does not. We need to find a way to get some sacks.
I like the way I saw Tom Jackson put it last night. "The Jets are the least flawed team in the NFL" No team is dominant like the Colts, Saints or Pats teams of the past few years. The Jets biggest issues are letting up big plays to slot guys and TE's. I don't think they are going to lose many games if that is their big issue because how many game breaking slot guys or TE's are there? Not many.
Very interesting observations from you all. I would tend to agree with some and not with others on a number of things. Firstly, I choose to call the wins they've had, not luck, but being a victim of circumstance. In the past the SOJ would have most assuredly found a way to lose all three of those games. But not this team...not this year. A Pats fan on page 2 mentioned the similarities with this team and the early 2000's Patriots...they won a lot of close games, just as the Jets are doing now. The media enjoys beating the Jets down for some reason, sans a couple of supporters, and I can't understand why. Maybe a combination of the brash, tough talking Hard Knocks, and a little bit of being the 2nd class citizen in NY...but the "spin" generously contributes the overall sentiment about our team...in many cases it even affects the fan base...just go read through the board to see how fickle we are. I believe that Rex will fix the D problems...mostly within the secondary. Let's face it. Pace is operating on a wheel that is about 90%...Taylor is up there in age...along with Ellis and, unless we are in full blitz mode, our other LB'ers and secondary doesn't factor into our pass rush. Where we can help with this is A) getting our secondary healthy (Lowry, et al.) and B) shoring up communication. The blown coverages, yesterday against Houston, were a direct result of communication. Go back and look at the uncertainty...it was pretty clear. Not a single team left on this schedule makes me worried...in the slightest...BUT, the Patriots, whom we HAVE to defeat to ensure the division, is doing a lot of their damage within the intermediate game. The "Law Firm" nor Woodhead scare anyone running the ball...we need to stop the TE and the short intermediate stuff. Just my Opinion. The Offense will take care of itself, I think. As many a poster said...the more 300+ yard games Sanchez puts up they will stop putting 8 in the box. In fact, I think you see that on Thursday against Cincy...If Holmes and Edwards hasn't put the fear into any team up until this point, they should now. I see the Jets having a considerable amount of success on the ground going forward. From now until February is the time LT needs to leave it ALL on the field. I truly believe if he empties the tank over the next 8 games (including playoffs etc...) He walks away a SB winner and retires. So why not leave it out there. Also, if I'm LT, I am in Shonne G.'s ear every day building his confidence. We NEED this guy for the remainder of the season and we can't have his fumbles causing confidence problems. I think the O will be just fine. Special teams...while we have not had Devin Hester returns...we typically get pretty decent field position out of our return game. I'll take it and our much better than average cover units. Outside the Cleveland game, Folk as been pretty good, and Weatherford above average. Westhoff does it again and fields a SOLID special teams group. Be damned glad we don't have that crew in San Diego...that's all I have to say about that! One thing I think I failed to read through the thread is something very vital is being overlooked. Every team we have played lately, save for maybe Detroit, had season changing games on the line when meeting the Jets. The Browns...they win against the Jets they possibly jump into playoff talk...same with Houston...they were fighting to get back into the division race discussion. Add to that the whole Hard Knocks thing and the Jets talking the talk...teams are coming against us to MAKE us walk the walk. Every team is coming in amped and with their A game. If I am the rest of the league and I take a look...fully knowing the Jets haven't put it all together yet...I would be very wary of them. The Jets, if all clicks on the same day at the same time, could end up laying a major hammer down on ANY team in the league, including the remaining "Big Four" on the schedule. Just an opinion... My last thought...Penalties. Yes, as some have said EVERY team is dealing with an exceptionally high rash of penalties. Having said that though...if every team is going to have a high rash of them...I'd much rather the Jets be number #32 instead of in the top 5!!!!! Every team this year is complaining about ticky tack calls...so we can't cry and claim we are being picked on...but some of them are ridiculous...false starts, personal foul out of bounds (Turner you idiot), holding... That has to stop because, as we have seen, some of those are game changing incidents. Push ups...push ups my ass...if I'm Rex Ryan I am FINING those guys, BIG TIME, until those penalties come down. You give the team a 5 penalty cushion...you have 5 Team fouls...every penalty after that costs $5k! That fine money goes into a kitty and the OPPOSING team, that the penalties occurred against, gets to pick the charity the cash goes to...just to add a further chunk of humiliation on top. Nothing else is working....clearly....and essentially the Jets are the Raiders "east". Just an idea...probably not my best one...but an idea none the less, push ups aren't working. Enjoy folks and here's to hoping we can turn it up that "notch" the remainder of the season!
All the Spivey threads are locked, but they still exist. Also, Spivey is going to be on the Bachelor starting in January. We created a celebrity, right here at TGG.com
"The Jets are the least flawed team in the NFL" I think that says it all. We are finding a way to win close games. Are we playing down to opponents? Probably, but the good teams find a way to win.
Holy shit, you weren't BSing about that. I found this blurb when googling that shit. That sounds kind of familiar.
I totally agree with this. I am hoping that behind closed doors Rex is tearing some guys up, because he's built this team around defensive pride and they have looked pretty bad at times.
Amidst all the drama caused by SG's fumble and screw ups on D, it was great to see Folk kick well. Revis and Cro continue to play well. Cotch out, Edwards and Holmes didn't seem to need much help. And Mark just keeps getting better. Lots of positives amid some negatives.
This team hasn't put it all together, but what aspect of the game CAN'T this team do, and do well? Run offense? Check. Pass offense? Check. Scoring when you need it, late in games with time running short? Check. Run defense? Check. Pass defense? Check. The ability to force turnovers? Check. Return game? Check. The ability to make big special teams plays? Check. (See the Miami game.) There is pretty much no aspect of the game that this team cannot do, and hasn't done. They have seldom put it all together, but there's no real gaping hole in their game.
I think one thing that is holding us back and a major reason why we are almost blowing games is our inability to adjust defensively. I love that we blitz a lot but we can't blitz every damn play. They know its coming and most teams just max protect and march right up the field against us. Rex is the anti-Mangini. Instead of only rushing 3 and playing prevent, we blitz like all hell and never seem to get to the QB or cause turnovers. I really think we need to mix it up more to keep teams on their toes. What we really need though is an elite pass rusher so we don't have to blitz every play to get pressure on the QB.
