Just watched Dungy and Rodney Harrison trading praise/criticism of the Jets. Dungy said they were both good and lucky. Rodney partially agreed, saying that the Jets passing game may be better but "their defense and run game aren't as good this year". Sure they didn't run the ball well today, but the team is still Top 5 in the league for rushing. It's good to know NE bias bleeds into other professions.. ats_suck:
I just watched the same segment, and agreed with Harrison completely. You can't tell me our defense is as good as last year. We have actually closed games defensively this year, but we just can't seem to get off the field when we force third and long this year. As far as the running game, I am willing to be we are averaging less than 4 ypc Since the Denver game. I know we were under 3.0 ypc today, and that is flat out inexcusable against the #20 ranked rush defense. Especially if we want to be considered the best offensive line in Football.
This isn't media reaction this is NBC pregame reaction. Two different things. I expected to see clips from multiple media sources.
Harrison is a dirty hitting cheater. Apparently you just need to be a bad gm or a dirty scumbag player to get a job as An analyst in sports
Honestly I didn't take Harrison's take on the game as a bad thing. We could tighten up the D and pound it a little more with the run. Could have been worse
Trent Dilfer just said that Mark Sanchez is having a stellar year. He pointed out we judge QB's based on Fantasy Numbers, even though we damn sure shouldnt. Then he says that he has talked to many of the all time greats, and they say a QB should be judged based on the clutch situations, 3rd down, 2 minute drill, and the end of games. He then says they way Sanchez has finished the last 3 games, and 4 of the last 5, he should be ranked in the second tier of Qb's. Directly behind Peyton, Brady, Rivers and Brees. Thats high fucking praise for our super young star. Oh and Tom Jackson gets a bonus point/honorable mention for discussing the fact that every team is giving us everything they have because we have a target on our backs, and we seem to be playing teams with their seasons on the line and they have to win to keep hope alive (Denver, Houston, Cleveland). He also pointed out Superbowl teams need more than one way to win. To be truly elite, you have to win in many ways, that way you can overcome days in which your best, is not your best. Forget who pointed this out, but they also said, we are the least flawed team in the NFL. Not necessarily the best, but the least flawed. Stating essentially, we don't have a major weakness.
i know, but since it came from ESPN, I felt obligated to post it. Everybody hates ESPN for their retardness, and often horrible analysis, I felt the board might enjoy something halfway decent in terms of Jets analysis
Last year's defense blew late leads against Jacksonville, Miami, Atlanta and Buffalo. People forget that because it got fixed for the playoffs.
How the fuck is driving the ball down the field and scoring a TD with 40 seconds left and no time outs "luck". I cannot even do that in Madden for christ sakes. From Day 1 the Media wanted us to fail because of the talk and Hard Knocks - and you know what? We are succeeding and backing it up and it is eating them alive.
the luck factor being that Houston is retarded. Instead of playing outside coverage to force braylon to catch the ball in the field of play, they played inside, allowing Braylon to the sidelines. In addition, the safety was retarded, and assumed we were going to throw to Brad Smith in the slot instead of Braylon on the outside... So against a competent pass defense/coaching staff, we shouldnt have been given the opportunity to make the play. But as Dungy said, we executed it, and were good enough to take advantage of the texans idiocy.
media reaction...more luck! but you know had the jets been the team that was down 23-7 and came back and won the media would also call that luck. like the above poster said the media wants us to fail. if the only enjoyment they can get out of this jet season is criticizing how they're winning then good for them. let them grasp at straws. had the jets won those 4 or 5 games they lost last season in the same fashion they would be the exact opposite. this year it's different. we have a legit passing offense and we're winning close games instead of losing them.
Tom Jackson's opinion is worth about 5 times more than Rodney Harrison's opinion. Of course the team needs to improve. Every team in the NFL that wants to win the SB must improve. Every team has weaknesses. The Jets are 8-2 and thats really all that matters.
Our running game isn't as good this year, period. The screens are far better though so from a production standpoint it's kind of what they were trading for. But the inability to run consistently against tough defenses is a cause for concern. Overall, our defense isn't as good either. Doesn't matter if it's the press, or Harrison or us saying it. It's true. It may be good enough in the end, but it is what it is..
Rex Ryan said the Jets needed to fix some things in the post game presser. Isn't that obvious to everybody? I'm not sure what the big deal is except the "luck" thing. There was no luck involved today. No coaching errors or clock mismanagement or penalties to blame for the Jets win. Just a team making plays at the end of the game with the game on the line.
If winning the toss is luck... fine. Everything else is pure clutch fucking talent, and you can't tell me any different.
and how exactly is he wrong? just because hes an ex-pat and isnt kissing jet ass like you all would like, doesnt make him wrong or him an idiot. is the jets D not as good as last year? absolutely is the run game not as good? again, absolutely all he's saying, no need for people to overreact and have a stick up their ass cause he didnt kiss jet ass, especially when he's right.
