Clemens sooner than you think.

I dont know if this has been posted or not? Just read it.

The most surprising performance-related news of minicamp season is that Jets rookie quarterback Kellen Clemens is a legitimate candidate to win the team's starting job. Patrick Ramsey has reportedly struggled, while Chad Pennington has looked solid, but unspectacular, in his return from torn rotator cuff surgery. Clemens impressed the Gotham scribes, and it's no mistake he took first-team snaps at the first Jets practice open to the public. It was coach Eric Mangini's way of saying, "It's a whole new Jets era." Mangini is not going to do any favors to players from the old regime. ... Clemens' performance thus far makes it likely he'll start at some point during his rookie season. Whether Pennington gets hurt or the Jets fall out of playoff contention, this is Mangini's free season to rebuild with no pressure. Clemens is the future.
The possibility of a rookie quarterback playing is going to knock some of the draft day shine off wideouts Laveranues Coles and Justin McCareins. ... Curtis Martin made his return from knee surgery in June, but was still limited in practice. I expect Martin to get a lot more help with carries this season, but still start. ... Center Trey Teague's broken ankle should mean the Jets will start both their first-round picks, D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Nick Mangold, on the team's rebuilt offensive line to open the season

Yeah right. That isn't going to be the case after the first 3 game skid.

As for Clemens, it would be pretty sad if he started the season. And I still wouldn't get too excited over minicamp.

    No pressure?

    That's a good one.

I believe rushing Clemens to start is not the best situation for Clemens' career or the Jets' season.
It's better to be patient on rookie QB's than to rush them and put them in the spot right away. Let Clemens be tutored by Pennington and the coaching staff.

I'd definitely expect Clemens to be starting at some point this year. Even if Ramsey/Chad is playing moderately well, the future has already been determined as being in the kid's hands, so better to get him his first reps now.

It's open competition. If in camp he proves to be the best of the 4, he should start, rookie or not.

I'd be surprised if Clemens started some time this year - but, it's hard to read the new coaches so far.

For sure by drafting KC the brain trust was saying we cannot count on CP otherwise they would not have drafted KC. As for it being better for him to start from day 1 is something that the so called "experts" debate almost every day of the week.

I figure Brooks to start the first week and Clemens to take over full time by week 3.

Chad will get the start with clemens waiting and getting much playing time by mid season. We need to see what chad has left and what value he has. You dont want to start a rookie from week 1

A rookie head coach and rookie offensive coordinator starting a rookie QB spells for disaster. If you can't see that, then you don't know the game of football too well. We need a veteran in there who can take control of the situation while the rookie coaching staff works out the kinks...

We've all seen this before on many stages, and we know how the play ends. Chad will play every snap in 2006 (if he stays healthy, of course). If he needs a spell for a play or two, or for a game, Ramsey will play (or Brooks, if he beats Ramsey out in camp). Clemens will not see a snap in 2006, and probably most of 2007.

The Coaching staff has already said that Clemens will get some playing time this year. How much that is we will have to wait and see.

When did they ever say that? All I've heard out of them is that it's an open competition and the best player will win the starting job.

As far as I'm concerned, when Chad wins the starting job, plays well, and stays healthy, there will be absolutely no reason to throw Clemmons in there as a rookie.

I don't think Clemens is a legit candidtae to start, he looked good in minicamp. So what? it's meaningless, we'll learn about him when he has pads on and is facing a live D. If Chad is healthy he's starting and Ramsey is #2 despite what we hear. Clemens' time will come but i won't be this year.

I think the only way Kellen Clemens see's playing time is if Pennington and Ramsey flat out suck. I think if Chad is 100 % they will let him start the whole year since he hasnt started a whole year. But if he isnt 100% and cant play every game and the jets are doing really bad around week 14 i think the Jets will play Kellen for 2 or 3 games but that is only if chad is not 100% and cant play every game or the Jets Suck really badly.

Look, football is about experience. You can playbook these guys into sedation all day long, and they won't get any better. If he's going to succeed in NY he needs to be able to handle an assload of pressure. Start him if he's the best choice.

Apparently these guys have a grip on football. Look at their picks. Look at their strategies. Look at their work ethics. Nothing to me has said that this crew is going to be a bust, as of yet. Maybe not season 1 or 2 will be spectacular, but if you think that Edwards was any better than these guys, even after his 4th year of coaching, you need to stifle comments about people's knowledge of football.

Pennington was never great, what makes you think he's going to be great after 2 surgeries? Ramsey can't even get it done in mini-camp so that tells me it can only go down hill. Bollinger is fun, but he's still just fun. If....IF Clemens is the best choice throughout camp and pre-season, send him into the fire.

We all know Chad is fragile. That isn't going to change.
