Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez embraces Bad Body Language fine system »

    By Manish Mehta

You don’t have to be a body language expert to notice that Mark Sanchez has kept his emotions in check the past few weeks. He was the sketch of cool after his 74-yard touchdown pass to Braylon Edwards last week. Moments after firing a 52-yard completion to Santonio Holmes in overtime that set up the game-winning field goal, Sanchez simply clapped. He credited his calm demeanor to the new Bad Body Language fine system put in place by the rest of the quarterbacks.

“It’s a fun thing, but also a good coaching point from (Mark) Brunell,” Sanchez told me. “So I jumped on board right away. It’s really showed up and it’s kept us in some of these games.”

“Sometimes the hardest thing is to fight your emotions and deal with the rollercoaster of the game,” he added. “If you can show that even keel demeanor to the team, that stuff is contagious. When our team can see that from me, it resonates. They know, ‘Hey man, don’t mess with this guy in a tough situation. He’s ready.’”

Sanchez has done a good job of "staying in the middle," with his emotions the past couple weeks

“That’s the kind of demeanor that you want to have and the message you want to send to those guys,” Sanchez said. “Because you’re going to need it late in the game. You don’t want to get too excited off a 21-point lead, because it’s never enough. If you throw three picks in the first quarter, you can’t tank. You still have three more quarters to play. Who knows? These are long games. Crazier things have happened. So it’s just about staying in the middle. That’s the biggest coaching point.”

As for how much cash he’s had to cough up so far, Sanchez says he’s been put under the microscope during practices.

“I’m pretty clean in games,” Sanchez said. “In practice, you’ll get upset, kind of waive your hand in a negative way and they’re on it in the film room. Bam! 100 bucks. They’re hitting me hard because the proceeds will probably go to some sort of quarterback function. They’d love for me to finance that. So they’re looking for everything possible.”

By the way, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, a former backup quarterback at Florida, took plenty of good-natured ribbing from the Jets quarterbacks for spilling the beans on the body language fine system.

“That shouldn’t have left the quarterback room,” Sanchez cracked. “So we’ve been giving Schotty a lot of heat about it. The (fine system) is for the quarterbacks… well, those of us who started games in college.”

    NOTES:
RB Shonn Greene missed practice Friday due to personal reasons. He’s listed as probable, but he’ll play.

RT Damien Woody’s knee swelled up doing squats this week. He’s listed as probable, but he will start.

CB Marquice Cole (hamstring) is out.

Rex Ryan admitted that the team received videotapes from the league to show his team about what does and doesn’t constitute a penalty. The entire organization from ownership to the front office to the business department has joined in on the penalty pushups at practice. They team only committed one today, in case you were interested.

Ryan had some fun with Eric Mangini when asked about the Cleveland coach’s decision not to reveal who his starting quarterback will be on Sunday. (It’ll be rookie Colt McCoy, by the way).

“That’s Mangini being Mangini,” Ryan cracked.

Ryan responded to Mangini’s good-natured Macy’s parade float comment Thursday by quoting a memorable line from “Stripes”: “You just made the list, buddy,” Ryan joked.

I agree. In psychology if you keep an even keel you're less likely to be affected by the downer side of things. Sanchez used to go really high on emotion when he made a TD, which in psychology meant he naturally would go really low when he did something bad like throw a INT.

I think this method is brilliant.

But he can't play and he's too old.
He has nothing to teach to Mark.

    Huge mistake signing him.

Pretty much any time you ignorantly doubt this team, that should warrant a fine.

I'm thinking unchangable gay avatar for a week or something. Just something that screams "I a total moronic fag queer who's scared of the Jets doing well"

Tom Brady blowing a goat might do it... I'm just spitballing here.
