Wow, JetBlue, you're beyond clueless. You sound like a pretentious sports hipster. Nothing you said made any sense in this thread. So, if Miami won and went to 5-3, they'd be no threat to the Jets, because they're behind us in the standings? Is that your argument? Double the records, seriously!?! Hahaha, double the records! Hahahaha, wow, this was some priceless stuff. Carry on.
I dont think he is saying they wouldn't be a threat, he's saying for the time being, the Raven's would no longer have the lead over us for home field, while the Dolphins would still be behind us in the standings. Therefore we have more to gain from a Raven's loss, rather than the Raven's win which pretty much keeps the status quo (yes i know the fins do fall one more game behind).
^None of this matters anyway. The Ravens won, the Dolphins lost. We need to win one more game than the Ravens from here on out to get that #1 seed.
I know this thread needs to die already. Its like some one hijacked Jetblues account and is fucking with us.
Im not gonna try and combat with the shakespear of TGG, I could sit here and decipher through his complicated explanations, in the end it just comes down to 2 different schools of thought. Heres the key thing ive come out of this whole thing with. The game in question (Ravens vs Phins) was going on simultaneously with the Jets game yesterday, a game we were losing most of the way. My school of thought is, at least if we lose Miami is also losing and the Pats as well, so we at least will not lose any ground and will retain 2nd in Division. Jetblues school of thought, well the jets are losing but hopefully the dolphins can pull this one out for us and tie us for 2nd in the division(for now...yes I understand that) and put aside a possible cookie for us at the end of the season that we may need. My school of though concentrates on the now, week by week, one game at a time, no predictions here pal, as long as we keep at least 1 step ahead of teams behind us and keep gaining ground, then we have as you say controlled our own destiny, and thats what I pay attention to. Possibly I dont have the mental fortitude to skip to the end of the season and worry about it all unfolding perfectly, personally I dont want to, that is not how I enjoy football or life for that matter. So like I said its 2 different schools of thought.
Jetblue isn't nearly as far off as many want to say he is. I disagree with his overall point that the Dolphins winning yesterday would have been the preferable option simply because I don't believe that rooting teams within the division is a good idea when they are still alive in the hunt to win the division which the Dolphins still are. Then again if the Jets do what I expect of them this season he is right that the Dolphins will never be a factor in the division race for the rest of the year. I just find it hard to assume anything more than 10 wins at this point even if I am expecting 12-13 wins from this team.
Exactly, i said from the get go I understand what he is saying, but that i felt it was to early to be in that state of mind (rooting for division rivals that are still within striking distance).
I already know Jetblue will be rooting for the Patriots Ill be rooting against the Patriots however, Id like sole possesion.ats_suck:
what confidence am I lacking? for me it doesn't matter who wins the Pats/Steelers game, the Jets benefit to a certain degree either way, a little more by a Steelers win, because the Jets still control whether they finish in front of both of them, just like the Fins. they don't have that luxury with the Ravens. with the Ravens/Fins game, though, they benefited more by being ahead of the Ravens because they would still be ahead of the Fins either way with another game against them. no, clueless would be you considering you don't seem to grasp a single thing I said, which has fortunately been explained by others already. and the double the records isn't the issue, it is projecting a record at the current pace. you act like I made that up, and if you think I did you are even more fucking stupid than this post made you look. haven't you ever heard of the phrase in sports "on pace to..." as in on pace to win 10 games, on pace to throw 20 TD's, on pace to record 14 sacks. do you know how that is calculated? you figure out how many they have registered to this point, and multiply it by the ratio of existing games. so if through 8 games a QB has 10 TDs, and there are 8 games left, they are on pace to throw 20 TDs. this is how you project outcomes...based on current statistics. it isn't fucking random. only a real fucking dimwit wouldn't know this and would attempt to mock it. the Jets are on pace to win 12 games. you can't dispute. so are the Ravens. if that holds up they will end up tied and the Jets will finish behind them. conversely, had the Fins one, they would only be on pace to win 10 games, and would still finish behind the Jets at 12 wins, so that victory wouldn't matter in regards to the Jets finishing ahead of them, but for the Ravens a loss would put them on pace to only win 10 games and thus they would finish behind the Jets. obviously I am not fucking guaranteeing this is what is going to happen, but it is the only outcome that can be projected based on empirical facts -- existing records. for crying out loud, nothing about that is difficult to grasp. sure, anything can fucking happen. is that really the conversation worth having, everybody simply presenting a possibility that is completely arbitrary. how meaningful is a prediction that states the Jets will not win another game this season and miss the playoffs if it isn't based on anything? according to the anything can happen philosophy, it is a legitimate prediction. I guess you find that ridiculous prediction completely valid.
Steelers, easy. We play the Steelers later to get a chance to bump them down....and even if we didn't, Steelers.
