The super good: Ladanian Tomlinson - One of the best offseason moves by any team. He been a leader, looks young again, and you can make a case he's been the Jets MVP thus far. Nice safety blanket for Sanchez in the passing game and has led one of the leagues best rushing attacks. Slowed lately I think more due to the way teams have stacked the run than anything on his part. Looking forward to see if he can keep this up in the second half. TJ probably would be running the ball just as well but LT has given us a new weapon in the passing game. Antonio Cromartie - Had a rough start drawing what seemed like a penalty every time they threw a ball near him but in the second half of the New England game he blanketed Moss and has been near shut down since. Him and Revis easily make up the best corner tandem in the league and if the jets can get their Nickel corner straight its going to be interesting to see teams try to pass against them. Looks like another example of Rex putting a guy in a situation where he can succeed. Cro looks like a different corner than he did in SD now that he's playing more man and less zone. Nick Folk - First off I loved Feely. He was tough, had ice water in his veins and he "played like a Jet". Folk? First thoughts were please tell me the jets are just signing him as insurance but still want to sign feely. Then it was oh no we are really going to count on this guy to kick for us and now what can I say...so far so good. He has made big kicks, he's been dependable, and he has added some extra leg we haven't had in the kickoff department. You couldn't ask for more from this guy. Going forward I am still scared to death he's going to miss a big one. I think it's more of a jet fan thing though rather than my trust in what I have seen from Folk. I guess we'll see what happens. The good: Santonio Holmes - Was going to put him into the indifferent category but bottom line is he won us the Denver game and the Detroit game so he has made an impact. Needs to be more consistent though. We have seen drops and fumbles out of this guy that are very uncharacteristic. I think him and Sachez haven't clicked yet and I expect they will get better and better by the week. I expect a big second half from Santonio. The Faneca Departure/ Slauson promotion - Slauson was scary through preseason and the first couple of games but has come around big time since. He cut out the penalties has been pass blocking better and doing a good job against the run as well. I don't think he is as agile as Faneca but he has been a key reason the Jets have a good rushing attack again. Only expect him to get better. Jets lucked out in this one because Vlad Ducasse couldn't cut it and would have had Sanchez in the hospital and this move in the bad or ugly category. The indifferent: Jason Taylor - Had a few moments but for the most part has been very quiet especially over the last few. He's clearly not the same player he was but has been a solid starter thus far. Not providing the pass rush the Jets hoped for. Brodney Pool - Had some opportunities to make plays in the first half and didn't with a few exceptions. He did pick Brady on the Cro tip and broke up that pass in the end zone in the Miami game to seal the win. Too many dropped INT's thus far for me and missed some opportunities on the blitz as well. None the less he has been an upgrade from Rhodes in the tackling department and it is a pleasure not see Rhodes out there making half assed tackling attempts as he pulls up to avoid a big collision. The bad: Kyle Wilson - Hurt the team when he is in there and now has become a complete non-factor. Even when he returns kicks he looks slow and indecisive. Has a lot to learn would be surprised if we get anything out of him this year and wouldn't be surprised if he sees some inactives down the stretch. Says something when he can't get on the field with Drew Coleman getting reps ahead of him. Wondering if the way the team threw him into the fire hurt his development.
Good writeup. Taylor sacking Brady in the NE game was a big play. Hopefully he has a few more like that in him. Holmes looked confused about a couple of routes on Sunday. That needs to get fixed stat.
The funny thing about Taylor is that he's actually helped this team much more on run defense than he has in the pass rush. He's been really good at stuffing the runs to the edge. He had some really good pressure/sacks early, but he seems to have cooled down significantly. Taylor hasn't been able to beat anyone one on one the last few games. It would be huge for this defense if he can somehow recapture some of that success he had earlier this season.
Good call on Taylor play. Almost forgot that one. He played well in Miami too but since hasn't done much. Holmes and Sanchez are definitely getting mixed up on plays still. I think they even may have had one right before the big play to win the game where Sanchez threw an out and Holmes cut in. You would think that has to get better the more reps they get.
Dude. Your retarted. This is simply a what have you done so far. I did not use the B word and I still have a lot of faith Wilson will be a great corner it's just going to take longer than I thought. I liked him a lot in college and thought we got the best corner in the draft and I still think that. Loved his playmaking ability too. Bottom line though if you look at what he has done so far he started off bad and got worse. He's been a deer in headlights and has been tentative in pretty much everything he has done. I think his confidence has taken a hit. He doesn't seem to make many plays on special teams either so thats why I made the inactive statement. Maybe the Jets would never do that.
Why? He has a point. Sure Wilson was a great-looking prospect and still figures to develop into a well above-average corner, nothing the OP says is incorrect at this stage. He got picked on badly in the first few games and since has really only seen the field in extreme dime situations and on punt returns (one of which he actually fumbled yesterday). He's so far, according to the expectations of this board, been a disappointment. Now is it fair that we expected him to be the next Revis right out of the gate? Of course not. Could we have asked for a little better production than we so far have gotten, and perhaps some signs that he's improving and getting playing time over the likes of Coleman? Probably. It's not unreasonable to expect more than special teams and dime play out of your number 1 pick. It may be unreasonable to expect greatness or even decency out of him, but he's been pretty uniformly overmatched so far. That doesn't mean that I think he is or will be a bust, he's got a great shot to be really good with his skill set.
So what has Kyle Wilson done this season to earn any other category described above? As the OP said, he's referring to just this season. He did not say he's a bust.
OP is correct. As of right now, Wilson is not contributing which is something you would not expect of a first round pick... He makes me nervous on every return and forget about his play in the secondary... I'm sure he will work out but right now he is a 100% non-factor on this team.
Who the hell cares? We have the best cornerback tandem in football. I have absolutely no problem with Kyle Wilson sitting and learning behind these guys. In Ryan's scheme, the corners are constantly put in bad positions because the defense blitzes so much. I know he was drafted to play nickel, but that's something he's never done before. Wilson has all the tools you look for in a corner. There's no reason to believe he can't contribute down the road. Drew Coleman is the more experienced player. At the moment, he gives this team the best shot to win.
Its amazing that Coleman had such a hard time in the past and although his play is far from stellar, he has made some great plays this year...
I'd give Brodney Pool more credit than that. He had a big tip in the end zone this last week against Detroit. I can't recall any situations where there was a play he really should have made and didn't. Cotchery's struggles the last two weeks are opening a big opportunity for Holmes to leap into that super good category. We all know the kind of talent he is, it's just an opportunity thing. Featuring him across from Braylon Edwards in two-wide sets should give him a chance to have some big games statistically.
Quite frankly, I stopped at the bolded. Feely at the end of last year had sewer water in his veins. How anyone can watch the Atlanta game and AFCC game and say he has ice water in his veins is beyond me. You were doing fine up until that point.
yeah I laughed at that too. He was not an elite kicker. He was above average. What people remember are the tackles and heart, and you know Jets fans love that and elevate someone into a status they don't deserve due to those factors. He's white too.
