Taken from today's ESPN.com/NewYork/Jets From the OC and the QB... Thank you BS and MS. Now just keep on doing what you've been doing and we'll be fine.
Yea, I read the whole thing and then though..shit I've read this before.... Insomina makes me not too bright.
I took alot of heat for suggesting that the Jets simplified their schemes. A little vindication sure feels good now and then man.. http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=59879
Man, I can't even begin to say how far Sanchez has come so early in his career. The guy has a deathgrip on nuts of this offense. It's so refreshing to finally have a QB that appears to play the part of a franchise QB. Lets hope he continues to grow and progress. Kudos to Schotty too, for realizing that less is more, and calling plays to the strength of our personnel. Great read.
Now, just to play devil's advocate, teams watch film, read the internet, etc. realize the same certain plays being called. Eventually it will boil down to the fact that are the Jets good enough to mail you the playbook or are weekly changes made so this sort of thing does not occur. I am fine with playing to Sanchez's strengths which are different from say Pennington's. But you can't blueprint a game plan for the defense. Anyway, nice pickup from the players to the coaching staff to be able to communicate needs/wants. I'm sure not every team would be this willing to make such a change.
This isn't a really a case for simplification. It's more of a case for consistency and adaptability. The Jets have finally had the same quarterback play for them for more than a year. Consistency breeds comfort and chemistry. That's what we've been seeing out of the Jets offense. That's why teams that have quarterback competitions never have good offenses. Look at teams like Buffalo, Cleveland, Oakland, Philly, Carolina, Arizona, and even Pittsburgh. Without any consistency, their offenses are stagnant. Adaptability: Extensive pre-snap motions worked for Chad in 06. They dumbed down the offense for Clemens in 07. They went with what Farve was comfortable with in 08. They started with a slightly more complex offense with Sanchez in 09. It worked well for the first few weeks, then the interceptions came. They then dumbed the offense down significantly. It kept us in games, but we never blew anyone out. We took a step away from ground-and-pound since week 2, and it seems that Sanchez is comfortable with this offense. Since Sanchez couldn't handle complex pre-snap motions, the Jets use less pre-snap motions. This doesn't mean that simplicity breeds the best offenses. Nor does less pre-snap motions mean that the Jets are running a simple offense (the Jets run a very complex offense with many unconventional looks and plays). This just goes to show that having consistency at the quarterback position, with a good quarterback and a flexible offensive coordinator, creates a good offense. Keeping the offense simple is what held us back in 09 and in the Baltimore game.
