If they double team BOTH Braylon and Santonio, it would mean that BOTH Keller and Tomlinson would be getting matched up against a LB, which is a ridiculous mismatch and would likely never happen. This means that on pretty much every play from scrimmage either Braylon or Santonio will be receiving single coverage, which is once again a huge mismatch. Meanwhile, if opposing teams ever stack 7 in the box, which is what it normally takes to halt our reigning #1 rushing offense, then it would mean on passing plays both of the wings receive single coverage, along with Keller and Cotch. If Sanchez is as good as I think he is, this offense is literally unstoppable. I can not wait.
This will benefit the running game greatly, and also eliminate CB blitz packages. However, I don't expect it to be an immediate payoff. Unless Santonio is in prime playing condition, which he might be, but I'd give him a week or 2.
he still worked out with the team during teh suspension and did all the film room. he just couldn't practice or play. he's been at the jets facility working with the trainers plus he worked out all camp long all the way from the voluntary camp. i'm sure he is in shape. he'll probably be limited snaps playing the #3 WR
Santonio will be lined up for every snap where a #1 WR is called for. They guy will be ready to go and even if he isn't targeted right away teams have to account for him. They get lazy and decide to cheat a safety up for the run short passing game and holmes/edwards beats them on a nice deep route. Offense really can go to the next level...might be the most dynamic offense the Jets have had since 98.
Welcome to the life of opposing teams Defensive Coordinators. I'm sure they are sitting around in a dark room looking for ways to defend the Jets. Pick your poison. Get bludgeoned by the Jets run game or let TD passes rain from the sky. Choose wisely D Coordinators.
And BTW. If all else fails, let Brad Smith lineup and take snaps in the Wildcat. Hint: He throws TD passes now as well.
Depends. Conventional wisdom says you should leave your best CB with their #2 man while your #2 CB, with FS up top, should cover #1. Now, with Braylon and Santonio both in the lineup, who do you want to call #1? Who do you call #2? Both are capable of being #1, but you do not want to deal with 2 #2 WRs (Braylon + Cotchery) either, as that means Keller will be slaughtering up the middle with no help in sight. A few things you can almost be sure of: 1. Either Braylon or Santonio will be single-covered. Nobody in his sane mind will double up both. 2. Keller AND Cotchery will see plenty of single coverage 3. Add Tomlinson in the backfield, and the defensive headache all of a sudden quadruples. (He can gash you with run, or he can sleet your throat with the underneath pass)
How much of that pass last week against the bills was simply to give every DC for the rest of the year something extra to prepare for as opposed to actually trying to incorporate something along those lines as like a once a month thing. I think we have been using the bradcat fantastically so far, we have executed it far better than expected. Last year seeing it kind of screwed with our momentum. This year it isnt just breaking things up and showing a different look, it is picking up first downs basically everytime it is on the field. great shit, Brad has turned in a phenomenal performance so far this year. If he keeps it up, we will be one step closer to winning 12 games having him performing up to his standards
I can't start a thread because of my thread count so if someone can start one about possibly facing Moss again on Monday. It looks like he's heading to Minnesota to finally get to play with his boy Favre! Nevermind! Just saw it posted in one.
Why wouldn't I get something similar to a spoiler alert before you lay those pictures on me. I don't want to see that shit.
TRUST ME - I hate thinking about it as much as you do but I just want to be a realist. I want SB accolades laid at the feet of NYJ as much as anyone and I want a Jets dynasty, but we all know that shit happens. (see NE Pats 2008)
Getting Holmes back from suspension is absolutely huge. The Jets offense simply has too many weapons for a defense to effectively cover. It rests on Sanchez's arm to get the ball to the open guy, and he has been excelling at that. If he can keep it up, and defense can hang around #15 or so in the defensive rankings, then nobody should be able to beat us. Obviously there will be a couple games we drop that we should win, but that happens with all teams. Some days you just don't have your best stuff, or a desperate team comes in and surprises you. That will happen; we're just not going to win every game. But if we can avoid injury and play consistent, disciplined football, we can easily reach Rex's goals of winning the division and leading the league in wins.
That assumes that the opponent will cover Cotch with the nickel instead? Alone? You don't know how Braylon will be covered.
Remember, we are considered a defensive team. If our offense is this good, which I hope so, just imagine how great the D is supposed to be at full strength...and it will. I give it two more weeks to be at full strength.
It may take a few weeks for it all to gel but the offense should be tough to handle. What the addition means is that defenses will have more to plan for and I expect alot more zone coverages. Keeping the other teams d off balance will only help the O be more successful. Now just win games and stay healthy!
and better rested late in games! A good offense means the d should get the rest it needs to stay off the field!
