you can complicate it all you want, but the more you have to complicate it the weaker your argument gets. ultimately it is a subjective, and the assertion that of two teams with identical records that have played one another the team that won is the better team is certainly a more reasonable argument than the nonsense you are endorsing. do I think the Jets are better? absolutely. but that doesn't mean a sound argument for the Ravens can't be made so it is asinine to whine because someone thinks they are and publishes it based on a reasonable criteria.
My god, the Ravens were a big pick to go to the SB. Its not that complicated, in our 1st test against a top team we lost at home. We have made strides since then, but the fact of the matter is the Ravens kicked the shit out of us. Its no slight on the jets that we lost 1 game, the Ravens are an excellent team.
I'm not whining if you meant me, so I assume you mean the OP. It's easily said that since they won they're better. I don't care what outsiders say just our own fanbase. I thought you were implying you thought that they were better, so I was just stating the opposite.
You are so correct. This is absolutely sound reasoning. In other news, the Jaguars are such a better team than the Colts. Asinine to wine about this brilliant analysis right here.
I agree we lost to a great team, but 1 point loss in a piss poor offensive game is hardly getting a ass kicking. I never had a problem with that loss that was my exact point, the Ravens being a SB contender. So yeah, Go Jets!!
I think rankings are fun, but they should in no way be the standard in determining which team is better. If the Ravens played in our division, we would likely split games with them. BTW, ESPN picked us ahead of the Ravens, and below the Steelers: http://espn.go.com/nfl/powerrankings?year=2010&week=5 Clearly we're better than the Ravens. John Clayton says so.
Jets 3-1 Steelers 3-1 It was the Ravens that handed these teams their only loss, and did it in their houses. I keep seeing it said that the Ravens were only better against the Jets that day. I guess that philosphy doesn't apply to the Ravens @ Bengals after a short week against last years number #1 defense? If you apply a logic to your team, the same logic must be applied to the Ravens. The fact is the Ravens have won 2 road games against two of the other "best" teams. The Ravens have also played 3 of the top 5 defenses from last season. Good Luck. CM
Flacco beat the vaunted Steelers defense. Not sure BR plays on that side of the ball. By the way, check BR's stats against the Ravens. Compare to Batch. Interesting, no? CM
I'm glad you responded (no sarcasm either, and this isn't a personal attack, just discussion). So is your thought that the win over the Jets alone establishes the Ravens as the better team, or the wins over both the Jets and Steelers. And then forgetting last year's stats and looking at this year's performance, how do you account for the loss to the Bengals in the analysis?
That SUCKS! It was hard enough trying to figure who I wanted to win last night. That game is truly going to be impossible for Jets fans to be happy about a winner.
Short week after playing the Jets on MNF. Played on the road, again. Flacco was still sore and bruised and not quite 100% after the Jets beat him up on the first play of the game. Did you ever watch the replay of that hit? Most deep tissue injuries take a couple of days to manifest. Our offense was still recovering. Our defense still held the Bengals to no td's. CM
If you believe in settling it on the field, then you'd have to give the Ravens the edge, for now. Hopefully, we'll see them in the postseason and avenge the loss.
It's hard to argue against either the jets or ravens being in the top 3 in the AFC. It's pretty scary how similar the two teams are: good young QBs, great running backs, elite WRs, stingy (nearly identical playbook) defenses, well coached, and hard-hitting smashmouth styles. Not a shock that they're both 3-1 and leading their divisions. As it stands, they beat us.. even if it was by one point. If we played again would the results be different in our favor? Probably, but the game would be close.
Ultimately a useless debate that will either be resolved through a playoff matchup or will never have to be resolved at all
I give the edge to the Ravens as both these wins were on the road against the NFL's best Defenses, sans the Ravens Defense. The edge being a likely home playoff game when it comes to head to head for seeding. I look forward to seeing the Jets in the post season. Rex is still in our hearts. As is Bart and Leonhard. Besides, I hate the Patriots. CM
Good points. I hope to see neither you nor the Pats in the post season! LOL! I'm good with our road to the super bowl going thru Jacksonville and Kansas City. :breakdance:
