By what means would you consider the season to be a failure or a success. Would you base it purely on wins or players progression or a mixture of both?
The season will be a success if our offensive line improves from last year, we figure out whether Chad or Ramsey can be the guy, and who fits where in the new 3-4 defense. If these questions are answered, we will have a specific draft plan for years to come and will know what guys to target in free agency. That would be considered success this season in my opinion. We know we won't win more than 6 games.
I dont really think the Jets are going to run the 3-4 defense all the time i think they will run the 3-4: 60%, 4-3: 40% or 3-4: 70%, 4-3: 30%. But to answer your question i would have to say wins because wins are the only thing that counts if you want to go to the super bowl. You could have a 3-13 record but your players could really understand the game but your team is 3-13 therefore they suck or it is due to injuries ( like the jets in 2005) but i think i would base it one wins.
Its a combination of a lot of things. I think that if we win 6 or 7 games this will be a very successful season. It shows that the team is improving and heading in the right direction.
Atleast a playoff birth to salvage the season. Super bowl win the most successful. Anything short of 10 wins is a disappointing season.
You're joking, right? This team is not in position, in my opinion, to go above .500 by any means. We could be starting a new QB, we have a remodeled offensive line, an aging halfback, and a questionable defensive line, and you're saying it's a disappointment to finish 9-7? Nice.
As long as we dramatically improve our running game on both sides of the ball, I would call it a success. Stop the run=win the game.
i am in agreement with this post, the wins and losses dont matter as much as the progress. it will be huge to see who fits and doesnt fit this year. knowing that will help to show what needs to be done to get where they want.
Great answer. I don't think we should concede any game. Although it isn't realistic to say we won't lose a game, I go into every weekend thinking the Jets can/will win. Otherwise, why even be a fan?
Our record will NOT be our definition of success. If we field a team that gives 110% 100% of the time, especially with all the emphasis on Character, I would consider it a success because then it is a foundation.... ..Of course all that BS goes out the window with a 1-15....LOL
I will take this season as a success if I see all the players and personnel moving forward. Take the Dolphins of last year as an example. They were successful because they had a new coach, bunch of new players, and now in their second year under Saban they are thinking playoffs/Super Bowl. If the Jets can put themselves in the same position, I would definitely take it as a success. It doesn't matter to me what their record is, as long as the future looks bright and see players progressing, all is good for me.
Expectations change quickly, going into the year I am thinking 6 wins or so but going into last year I expect 10-11 wins- expectations change quickly so saying today 7 wins would be a success it may not turn out that way as maybe we are 7-4 and lose our last 5? that wouldn't work so i can't place a concrete # on success.
Most people's expectations seem too low to me. Once training camp opens and everyone sees that Chad is throwing fine, Curtis and his healthy knees are hitting the holes with speed, Ellis and our DL are gaining their swagger back, our LB's are wreaking havoc on the defensive side of the ball, and the secondary is maturing into an elite group, people will start talking playoffs again. It's only a matter of time. Granted, alot needs to go right in order for us to have a shot this season. But this is a new era in the NFL, and turnaround time is greatly reduced if the right system and coaching are put in place.
Even if Chad is perfect and Curtis is pre-'05 form(as optimistic as I am i would be happily shocked if those 2 things happened) we have a mostly young staff and a young, 1st time HC. You have to expect growing pains, maybe we'll defy expectations and be a playoff caliber team but going in expecting it is I think too much to expect.
