Funny, everyone else plays with a DWI and we're the only ones that condone thug behavior. I don't have a problem with wanting him suspended to make a point, or in his saying that we're lying about not being able to suspend him (he's right about that part, we can deactivate anyone for any reason, we just have to pay him) but to say it's condoning his behavior if you don't want him suspended is nonsense - what I don't condone is why we should be held to a higher standard than any other team. Besides, suspending him with pay doesn't exactly hurt him as much as it hurts the team and fans.
Perfectly said. And I bet dollars to donuts he IS deactivated for next week's Buffalo game, and Jets management says "we needed to wait for all the facts to be out". Personally I think he should be deactivated/suspended for this weeks game. The only thing its seems most athletes respond to as discipline is the game being taken away from them.
Woooooow, r u fukin serious? He is using someone like a pawn to propgate his disdain for the JETS? That's absolutely fukin LOW... Did he have any 13 yr old rape victims on his show? or People who have been shot in Clubs?
What do you mean interviewing? Did someone randomly call up the show or did he go out of his way to find someone who was injured in a DWI to put them on the show?! That would be incredibly unprofessional if it was the latter...especially since a random person isn't qualified to opine on what an NFL suspension should be.
Since we are on the high and mighty kick, let me throw this out there. Maybe he is getting this backlash from the media and fans because he is black? We all know "Thug" is code for the "N" word.
I'm willing to bet that Mike's engineer told him that he had someone who claims to be paralyzed by a drunk driver and then Mike wanted this person put on the air. Seriously, what is the odds that today of all days this person gets through and actually makes it on the air? This person did, of course, because Fatty wanted to use them as a prop to bash the Jets. Does anyone really think he gives a shit about this person and their life in the wheelchair? Did Mike ever speak out about drunk driving before?
I heard the broadcast in my car. The woman was a caller with a very sad story about how a drunk driver hit her car and killed two other women and left her paralyzed from the chest down. Then her husband left her and she had to raise two kids by herself. Mike then accepted a 3rd phone call from a NJ Police Officer who basically said that .16 for a person who is not an alcoholic (and who has not built up a tolerance for alcohol) means that that person (Edwards) would probably have trouble standing up! Mike seized that statement in which to end his call... emphasizing his lambasting of Edwards and the Jets (of course)... not being able to stand up... Yadda, yadda.. They switched to the live interview of Ryan at the podium again and one reporter asked Ryan, "How can you justify sitting Edwards for this game when your season may depend upon this game?" To which Ryan replied, "I'm not sitting him. I said I wasn't STARTING him."
Thanks for posting this. What a horrible story. Anyone with a heart has to sympathize with this person and everyone on this board, apart from a few idiots who have suggested that "if you drink a lot of water you can sober up after a night of drinking in an hour" etc, agrees that it is a serious crime that deserves significant punishment. That being said, I am sick to death of the double-standards and holier-than-thou attitudes of all these people who are suddenly all concerned about drunk driving. Fatty is the perfect example of this. If he had been consistently speaking out about drunk driving, or other crimes by NFL players, I would respect his right to speak. Instead, he excuses the behavior of players of the teams he follows (think Mickey Mantle, his hero, ever drove drunk?) and suddenly is a law and order guy when it comes to the Jets. He has an agenda, and yet he pretends that he doesn't, as he argues that the Jets are a thug team, and never mentions the truth- that the Jets have fewer arrests than most NFL teams over the past few years. Does that mean that Braylon isn't an idiot? No. That he shouldn't be punished if he is found guilty or pleads guilty? Of course not. But GTFOOH with this bullshit about how Braylon should sit when the league rules and precedent - as set by his beloved G-Men - is that you play even after a DWI, up to the moment the case is adjudicated. Mike's pushing his narrative about the Jets and their "outta control thug behavya." I'm going to keep pushing back. GFY Fatty.
A caller brought up the names Ronnie Brown, and Kareem McKenzie and how they both played no suspension, and all he could say was is were not talking about the past, were talking about it now if it happens in the future then well talk about it. Then someone called up and said if a contract got a DUI he would go to work the next day, and then he said people in the NFL, in the press are held to different standards and tried to include his name in that sentance as well.
What the fuck? Suddenly precedent doesn't matter? When it comes to Braylon, somehow we have to reinvent the way we look at drunk driving and punishments for NFL players? So if players weren't suspended in the past, that doesn't matter when it comes to Edwards? No shame; no logic - the Fatty way.
1. Since when is a team responsible for punishing criminal behavior? It is up to the courts and Goodell to deal the medicine. If Goodell says he can play but must pay a fine, so be it. Now, if the Jets decide to go above and beyond, sitting him out, it would certaintly help their image but they should not have to eat media shit for being satisfied with the punishment dealt. 2. Let's go Francesa's route with this. This means all teams are to be held responsible for all criminal actions off the field or are, in his words, condoning said criminal actions. This means the Yankees condone steroid and substance use by not punishing A-Rod, Pettitte, Gooden, Strawberry, etc, the Red Sox condone steroid use, the Giants condone every substance and criminal action by Lawrence Taylor, on and on. All are criminals by Francesa's logic and should all be or have been suspended for X amount of games. Yet, if you mention any of this to lardo he'll give you the run around and waive at the producer. At one point he admits to drinking and driving but he was never nearly as intoxicated. This guy is tilted more than a blind lesbian in a fish market Fucking douche bag
I still don't get why anyone would listen to someone who hates your team. He's winning by you getting upset. You play right into his hands. Take a step back and regain control by turning off the radio, or switching stations, or plugging in an iPod, or a CD or a fucking cassette tape. Stop listening.
One caller just now told Fatcessa that he relishes in Jets misery. Fatman told the guy he is not responsible for Braylon Edwards then hung up on the guy before he could make his point. If that does not tell you how bias this guy is than I do not know what will. Some of us listen to WFAN online because we do not live in our hometown. Unfortunately, we have to listen to this clown for 5 hours to get news on our favorite teams.
I never said I was going to lock it. IMO, rehashing Fatcessa is a waste of time...he's an asshole.....time to move.
Listen to 1050 ESPN, they're the Jets home station and give a better take on everything Jets anyway. Fuck Fatcessa and his hatred.
That station's signal is weaker than WFAN's. Not all of us Jets fans can listen to 1050. Also, some of us don't get bent out of shape over Francesa. I am a Mets and Jets fan- two teams he loves to bash- yet I still listen to his show about an hour per day. I disagree with stuff he says and I still listen to his show. He talks about sports. It is not a serious subject (unless you get a paycheck from a sports organization of some kind).
