One day after calling his quarterback quandary "a beautiful situation," Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid made a surprising reversal: Michael Vick, not Kevin Kolb, will be the starting quarterback, the team announced Tuesday. There's no need to fret about missing any games. You can watch every contest again with Game Rewind. Get more information here. Reid, who said Monday that Kolb was the starter, was scheduled to explain his reason for the switch during a 6:30 p.m. ET Tuesday conference call with reporters. However, a league source told NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi that the decision to go with Vick wasn't related to Kolb's health. Kolb has missed the last six quarters because of a concussion. Lombardi reported that Kolb is cleared to play, but Vick has performed too well. Vick's second start will come Sunday on the road against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Vick threw for 175 yards and one touchdown and ran for 103 yards in relief of Kolb during a 27-20 season-opening loss to the Green Bay Packers. Vick had 284 passing yards and two TDs in his first start, a 35-32 victory at Detroit on Sunday. Kolb started two games in his first three seasons before he became the Eagles' No. 1 quarterback after Donovan McNabb was traded to the Washington Redskins. Kolb struggled in the first half against Green Bay. The Associated Press contributed to this report. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...k-over-kolb-as-eagles-qb?module=breaking_news
This was the move that made sense if the Eagles want to win now. Stubborness would be the only reason for Reid to give the reins back to Kolb.
He would put Kolb in even MORE pressure if he were to just insert him back after the way Vick has played the last 2 games.
Kellen: "Jeesh Mark, I thought I had it bad!"  Mark: "Yeah really. Classic! Its worse cause he has talent."
Idn I would give Kolb another shot. I mean he only got to play like 2 quarters you cant judge a qb on that. And I am not just saying this because now I have to start Hasselback instead of Kolb in my fantasy league....
When Vick was in those 2 games the offense was so much better. The eagles have a good offense as it is and with Vicks athletism they are gonna be tough to beat.
What I don't get is why they went out of their way to announce Kolb was the starter THEN pulled a switcheroo two days later...did someone twist Reid's arm? They're on the road against a bad team, if you're not going to put him back in then, what does it say about your evaluation of Kolb over McNabb and what you think about Kolb if a game in Jacksonville is too much pressure?
Vick has been playing out of his mind the last 2 weeks! He looks as good as he ever did in Alanta. Even Reid admitted he may be the hottest QB in the league at the moment. Kolb would have to play a perfect game to be accepted back in the eyes of the fans and likely the players. Vick almost brought them back against GB and was a highlight show against Detroit in a win. Would you lose the lockeroom if you inserted Kolb back in (after struggling in preseason and looking rough in the 1st quarter against GB) after the way Vick has been playing? Kolb is already dealing with replacing McNabb, now does Reid want him dealing with having to replace Vick?
I think it's a good move. You gotta put your best team out there. Who cares why you got rid of McNabb, that's in the past. If Vick plays out the season, yea you didn't get to see what you have in Kolb but you also will be able to re-sign him cheap as your backup instead of giving him starter money. Vick could wind up becoming the Eagles' next franchise QB if he has a good season, afterall he's only 30.
Oh i wasn't aware they signed him to an extension. I thought the whole point of trading McNabb was to see what they had in Kolb since his contract would be up at the end of this season and then they'd make the decision. If that's the case this decision doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
I think they didn't figure that they would have Vick playing even better then his prime in Atlanta, no one knew or else he would be starting somewhere else this year
