Brady was going to be in there either by injury or a couple more bad games by Bledsoe. (According to my Pats fan friend) Brady completely outplayed Bledsoe in the preseason and they were begging for Drew to be benched. Mo Lewis just sped up the process. Do you really think that if Lewis didn't knock Bledsoe out, that the Pats would just leave Brady on the bench for his career?
is that why you quoted this? Numbers only tell half the story. Sure he had nice games during the postseason, but they were just well managed games for the most part. No more, no less. Against the Colts, he played extremely well in the 1st half, and nothing else when it really mattered. That's not breaking out. He managed the game well, but defense couldn't keep them close in the second half. Today, you can say was his first actual break out game because he carried this team today and it was pretty obvious. First TD was a perfect drive, playing behind 7-0. That drive under 1min before half time for FG., also playing behind 14-7. Sanchez took over in second half without question. It's really subjective on what you consider a break out game, but I for one do not think he broke out during the postseason. He managed the game well, but did not carry the team. The defense did until they broke apart.
Of course. Bledsoe was the franchise QB, and he just signed a $100 million deal before that season began. There was no way he was getting benched because Brady outplayed him in the preseason. The Pats had good teams, but Brady made them elite. We would have won a few divisions had he not played from 01 - 09. Let's be real here.
There was a reason everyone was so optimistic about Sanchez and it wasn't because of his regular season.
When Sanchez plays virtually mistake-free football, the Jets come out on top every time, no matter who they are facing. Go Jets!
Sure, let's be real. Brady was making huge steps up the depth chart and definitely would have supplanted Bledsoe if his play continued to be below average. Lets also be real and not A) blame Mo Lewis for what the Patriots team accomplished and B) forget all the great things Mo Lewis did for this organization thru the many years he was here.
Oh please don't get me wrong. I was also very optimistic of Sanchez in 2010 after his playoff performance. I just don't think he broke out until today's performance for the reasons I stated above.
Yes. In fact after Brady slumped down the stretch Belichik and Weis were looking at the feasibility of playing Bledsoe in the post-season. He was the guy with the $100 million dollar contract. I think if Bledsoe doesn't get hurt the odds are pretty good that Brady pulls a Matt Cassell and holds the clipboard for a couple of seasons and then the next coach of the Pats after Belichik is fired winds up bringing in his own guy. Brady really was not that highly thought of by anybody at the time the Pats put him in for Bledsoe. His one real virtue was his intelligence and that's the main reason Belichik drafted him - to work the signalling for spygate.
This is actually incorrect. Brady passed Damon Huard on the depth chart and impressed everone in the Pats organization with his grasp of the offense from year 1 to year 2. In year 1 he wasn't highly regarded by the organization and was nearly cut, but in year 2 he surprised them and made huge improvements. He would have been put into the lineup by mid to late season if Bledsoe continued to struggle and the team continued losing.
I agree with that. I did not think Bledsoe was good anymore by 2001. He was adequate at best. If Bledsoe did not get injured, I think Brady would have been playing by midseason.
