Slauson nearly got Sanchez killed today. I think he's been above average as a Run blocker, but I'm very concerned right now with his pass protection
The one play where Sanchez nearly got killed it was Gerrard Warren who was lined up against and went right past Slauson, not Wilfork.
I don't know, at the time I was all for dumping Faneca because I legitimately thought he was one of the weakest links on the O-line last year. But the more I watch Slauson play, the more I realize that he's just a less-experienced, not quite as run-blocking dominant, version of Faneca. It's early and we'll see how Slauson matures (and I think we all agree that Vlad is a replacement for Woody, longterm), but right now it looks like the Jets probably got rid of Faneca a year too early.
Actually, I thought the entire left side had a poor showing today. Brick blew some blocks; in fact, I believe the play where Sanchez was blown up by Warren (Slauson's man) also involved Brick letting a rusher inside. That'll change. Brick isn't going to have too many off games, and Slauson will look better on Brick's good days.
Yeah, I completely agree with you about Brick. I thought he was very mediocre today, by his standards.
Which sack are you talking about? I recall Warren blowing through Brick for a sack, Slauson was pulled out to the right. I can't remember the other by Warren.
Slauson has been fine. In two games he got beaten twice. It's his second game starting in the NFL and he's only going to get better.
In regards to the Ferguson bashing: offensive lines are a unit... they are a unique position where individual performance does not a player make. He hasn't looked good so far but as the left side of the line develops chemistry it will improve in general. Slauson has needed to play up to the standards of a hold the fort player and he has done that so far. Lets just hope Ducasse speeds up his development.
he's not perfect, but I'll take it. I'd love to have him fill the LG spot and then Big Vlad eventually take over at RT.
You going back to that bust bullshit? If that is the case you are easily the least knowledgeable frequent poster here.
Maybe we bring in The Terminator to help Slauson out on passing downs and protect Sanchez's blind side.
I was disappointed in Slauson performance today... but still the guy is only in his second game in the NFL... I'll wait AT LEAST half a season before making a judjment... overall his run blocking is solid (although sometimes he's in the way) and sometimes he has some bad mistakes in pass-pro. Could be better, could be worse... I must admit I wouldn't mind seeing Turner in there though... PS If all goes according to plans the left side of our OL will play together the next 5 yrs... they'll have time to develop chemistry...
Turner was very miffed that he didnt get any consideration for the position. I watched him during the preseason & he played his a$$ off. I also liked what I saw yesterday when he stepped in for Mangold (even though it wasn't for that many plays).
I actually recall a Callahan interview where he said (somewhere before TC) that LG wasn't a 2-horse race but a 3-horse race with Turner in the mix as well. Guess things changed... Having trained for three years at NFL speed Turner is the most pro ready guy we have (between him, Slauson and Ducasse) but maybe they feel he doesn't have a high ceiling... idk. Everytime he's on the field he looks solid... last year he filled in some at RG and had some really nice power of the LOS. Maybe that's just because they're only asking him to do basic stuff. All I know is IF at some point they'll take Slauson out of LG (not saying they should, just if) Turner will be the guy to step in... Ducasse is no way ready. Bottom line is I hope he stays with this team a while because I feel good about him backing up are our starters or even starting himself... hope the fact he is a F&S guy doesn't mess things up !
