To start off, I went to the game and left just as disappointed and disgusted as everyone else. However after having the night and early morning to reflect I think we all need to step back and try to take another look at the situation. The Jets played one of the top 5 defenses in the NFL last night. You guys need to understand that and have more respect for what they do. Did their secondary have some injuries, sure, but like the jets they are a team defense and have players who will step up and fill the void (aka Pouha). Ray Lew said before the game that the Ravens knew Sanchez likes to throw the short routes (slants, ins, outs, curls). Their defense played to this and forced Sanchez to either throw deep or check down. IMO they got a lot of pressure on him so every time he tried to go deep he either had to check down or make a quick errant throw to avoid the sack. And look at the one play where he does take a deep shot to Keller, Braylon shoots us in the foot. Basically what I'm saying, is this is a reality check to show that this team is not invincible. I believe we still have a solid team that can make the playoffs, but they need to show more respect for their opponents and not believe they can just go out on the field and destroy everyone, even if we have a better team. Take away Braylon lining up offside, "running" into the kicker, and Wilson's PI to set up the Ravens on the 1 and we have a totally different game on our hands. Stop calling for shotty's head, because this wasn't his fault
The problem I have is, it seemed like Sanchez DID have time to throw on most plays. He seemed to either check down prematurely or got happy feet and didn't step up into the pocket to buy extra seconds. I think part of the problem is that he was constantly in 3rd and longs where he knew the Ravens were bringing the heat.
I'm still besides myself seeing how they were set at the LOS for 35 of the 40 sec play-clock. The ridiculous audibles, motions etc. What a waste of time. How about trying a no huddle shotgun play a couple times in a row.
I think some of Sanchez's woes can be fixed though... I mean last year he threw the ball and was too careless... now he checks down every throw like he is Brady Quinn... I think they can talk him through it and he will snap out of it.
Seeing our QB with all the damm motions and waiting for the last moment to snap the ball, it seemed so stupid, just pointless and I felt like our offense was playing in slow motion and without any intensity. Just line up and snap the damm ball and stop thinking so damm much
Remember a few years back the Jets took the Colts to the last play because they ran hurry up O. I don't see why they can't do that again. They need to try something... even against the Titans two seasons ago with Favre we played a quick O with intensity... it wasn't hurry up O but it was lots of quick slants, runs, quick snaps, and play action... then we abandoned it the next game... I understand different opponent different game plan but why not do a little of everything each game, keep em honest.
Good point we play against one of the best, if not the best team in the AFC right now, and only lost by 1 point. So all is not list. But even against a great defense, our Offense needs to do more. Sanchez not only looked scared to make a mistake, but he looked very uncomfortable in the pocket. He had happy feet all night. I hope that isn't due to his knee taking away some mobility bc that was one of his few possitive atributes last year.
I took that our d-line played extreemly well. Brian Thomas and simone pouha and Ellis and taylor all put in a great effort. The linebackers also played well. Special teams did their job. The secondary played horrible they just cannot make that many penalties on third down. The QB play killed us. I have no idea how the receivers played because the QB play was that bad. the O line needs work. Slausen got his ass kicked by Ngata. That was pathetic! Brick had too many penalties. The RB's were ok LT looked good but green has to hold onto the ball.
Well, those things happened, so you can't exactly take them away. You also can not take away that our offense had 6 first downs all night and was completely inept all game. Take away the fact that we had a historicly low number of first downs for our franchise and scored 0 offensive touchdowns and our offense was was good last night. ....except those thigns happened as well.
Sanchez looked nervous and indecisive. Was he afraid of throwing a pick? How do you not challenge the Ravens' depleted secondary?
You make it sound like everyone was absolutely terrible. Who could Sanchez have thrown to? Cotchery dropped a pass. Keller dropped a pass. Greene dropped a pass. Slauson got beat on ONE play where he was alone on Ngata. that's not bad at all. the timing of it was terrible, but Ngata is one of the best NT's in the league. Brick got called twice, not 4 times or whatever Gruden's dumb ass said. Greene shouldn't have been benched. I don't give a shit if he put the ball on the ground, it was a freak fumble, he had it secure in both hands and ran into Slauson at just the right angle for the ball to squirt out. LT Looked good, but why did Schotty keep calling plays right up the middle of their defense? I mean 2 runs worked there, but one was broken and the other was on a nice cut by LT... What happened to having Keller blocked the corner, and Greene or LT running between Keller and Brick? That play is fucking money for the Jets every time and they ran to the sides maybe once? Come on. This game was on Schotty and Penalties. I think Schotty is a good coordinator, but he gets way too cute, and too many times, way too predictable. Some of the penalties were bogus (The phantom call on wilson that had nothing to do with the play on 3rd and 28, the retarded running into the kicker call, the retarded illegal shift call.... ALL the non calls against the ravens such as Eric Smith being held on McGahee's TD).... I watched Cotchery get armbarred on that 3rd and 3 where they took the shot down field, but Wilson barely brushes Housh a couple times and they call it PI in the endzone, Really?
Cotchery did seem to get arm bared if you are referring to the deep ball in I think it was the 3rd qtr. Perhaps our talk pissed off the officials too, I am kidding but there always seems to be ridiculous calls but some were legit and that's at least fixable.
