Good read I didnt expect to win this game and if we had lost it 24-23 would be feeling OK but when you see how terrible the offense performed (after a pre-season of nothing but terrible performances) then its very concerning. I still think we will end up 10-6 or 9-7 and make the playoffs as a wild card (which is what I thought before the season started) but there sure as shit is not going to be any superbowl coming this way unless Sanchez makes some monster improvements.
I have to say I agree with much of the article. The weakest part of the Ravens defense last night was their secondary and we tested it only a couple times. Sanchez was lost out there and Schot must have been using a different playbook than last years, because even in Sanchez's worst game he looked better than tonight. When they zoomed in and Sanchez was holding his arms up and asking what, it showed how bad our offense is. Its time to take the gloves off and call the plays we would be using if we had Brees or Rivers at QB. Take off the training wheels and let him prove he can play or give him some lessons in not what to do. Even when Sanchez was allowed to throw the ball he was checking down so fast the receivers didn't have any time to make a break. Shonn Greene is in the dog house for not holding onto the ball and was clearly the 2nd best RB on the team during that game. He is not a receiving RB so why take LT out on the play and put him in when you know the pass was probably going to him. Three big offensive plays that make me mad and where our guys were not playing like a Jets were: Sanchez sliding a yard too early, Dustin running out of bounds a yard short and the coaches not showong some confidence in our running game by trying for it on 4th and one yard. What was with all those penalyies? I disagreed with a few but even with taking those plays out we still were having a horrible night on defense. Every CB on the field made a mistake tonight and it was only because of our d-line and LBs that we were still in the game. When you hold the other tean to three scores or less you should win the game, we held them to two and still lost on our home field. The only bright sport of the night was the Chargers getting beat by the lowly Chiefs. I love the Jets and like all the players, but we need to air the ball out just to keep the other teams D from crowding the line. Rex called a good game in defense and can't be held for all the penalties. He wasn't on the field, but Schot should be held responcible for the mess he called on offense. Sanchez was out of sync during the game and would have done better if he was calling his own plays. I can't wait to get Holmes back! OK, enough ranting it's 4:30 and time to finally get to bed, thank goodness I'm off tomorrrow, because I could sleep after watching that nightmare.
Very good article. Pretty much nails it. If we don't make some very strong adjustments on offense it will be a very very long season.
Good read, only 2 objections. 1. Don't be a pussy and blame the refs. As a fan you'll always think they're out to get you, they probably aren't. 2. Sanchez shoulders some blame too. He choose to take the checkdowns (something he sounded like he took pride in during the offseason, especially after the first preseason game against the Giants)and didn't really do a good job of hitting his men in stride with a chance for YAC when he did. Schotty called a bad game, but Mark played a bad game. I know he's young, but he needs to show more than that.
Its hard not to be slightly pissed off when there are 19 accepted penalties, and then some. Think about that... that's a LOT of penalties. Some were well deserved but there were others that were both phantom and game changing calls. The Kyle Wilson one was one in particular, it was nowhere near the play, it was questionable, and it gave the ball back to the Ravens after getting stopped on 3rd and 28. The other which the article didn't mention was a running into the kicker on Braylon Edwards where Braylon dove to block the ball, and the kicker brought his leg down on Edwards back and then sold a fall. Somehow THAT was running into the kicker? Horse shit. The Ravens scored their TD after that. They would've had 3 and it would've been a game changer. Still, as frustrating as that was, the Jets CLEARLY lost the games themselves.
This. Schotty certainly didn't tell Sanchez to check down on every damn play. Schotty calls the plays, but Sanchez is the one that must execute.
Great article but in the end, the JETS need to get in the endzone and Sanchez needs to stop being scared with the ball because he still has the deer in the headlights look on his face. When Rex Ryan has the Offense as aggressive and fearless as the Defense, then the JETS will be contenders.
Was a good read. The checkdown passing only works if the running game is working also to keep the chains moving. The Jets running game wasn't working well and so the checkdown game turned into a lot of broken sequences followed by kicks of one sort or another. If you take away the 43 yards on the two long carries the Jets running game went for about 3 yards a pop all night. That's just ugly.
this article was pretty spot on minus one major area: DISCIPLINE a lot of those penalties, ie holding and pass interference, especially cromartie's infractions, were due to a lack of discipline. we all know that the rule is written in a way where you have to play the ball, which means you need to look for it. time and time again he didnt do this. thats when a coach needs to be in his face ripping him to shreds for being a lazy SOB. for a guy with his athletic ability there is no excuse for this. he was also out of position most of the time, which definitely lead to some of his not being able to turn around. and as far as the offense goes, TAKE A GOD DAMN SHOT DOWN FIELD. seriously. no balls. go for it. the one play where he checked down to richardson while edwards was uncovered pissed me off the most. that was 6 right there. instead it was 6 crappy yards.
