Just curious, we arent saving money, what did signing Revis have anything to do with him? And please dont say "roster spot", we were never going to keep 7 cb and 1 fb.
we had to make sure we had options at cb in case the revis shit didnt work out. it did, so we signed him back. its not rocket science, buddy.
The team needed to release a player who could not be claimed off waivers. That means it had to be a vested veteran. It also had to be a vested veteran who wouldn’t draw tempting offers from other teams so that he would still be around to re-sign. That’s where you get Tony Richardson. They didnt want to release Brian Jackson just yet because they were unsure if the Revis thing was going to pan out. Now that Revis signed, they didnt need Jackson on the 53 man roster anymore and by releasing him, TRich took his spot.
And there would be a greater possibility of re-signing Jackson to the practice squad as many teams would have made their claims by now.
Housh?? As he was a veteran, he was cut and able to sign with whomever. (greater than 4 years in the league i believe)
no, players with less than 4 years go on waivers. If waived, they can be "claimed" A veteran such as T Rich, when cut, is immediately a free agent. The Jets hoped no one would pick him up, and no one did. It was a move to not immediately put a young kid on waivers, so that they could debate who they wanted to cut. They cut Jackson.
Only after Revis signed on the dotted line. As it was said earlier, they needed Jackson in case Revis didn't sign.
They also wanted to get Jackson on the PSQ, so they wanted to wait a day after most teams have put their waiver claims in. This way he had a better shot at making the PSQ, rather than get picked up by another team
