Unless he plans on setting the nfl record for tds in a season I dont see them having a shot.

Their defense was already subpar last year, and now its 2 best players are out for the season. On top of Seymour being missed.

Stack that with Welker coming off a huge injury, holt out for the year Itll take a miracle for the pats to do anything.

And last year they had an absolute complete cupcake schedule and their defense struggled with that.

If anyone is going to challenge the Jets it has to be Miami because the Pats are done

Brady can put up 30 points a game. I agree the defense looks shitty, but they still can put up 30 points a game.

Have you been smokin rocks or something? NE doesn't have a shot to win the AFCE? They won it last year with an even worse defense.

Last year they only got 30 points vs the Titans, Tampa, Indy, Jags, and us (when Sanchez had 1000 turnovers)

Titans Tampa and Jags all have god awful defenses, and the only reason they did it to us was our offense turned it over.

Theyre not the same team who can put up 30 + points a game as they used to be.

Especially since they only have 3 games this year against shitty defenses (5 if you add in Buffallo).

Their defense was even worse with Ty Warren and Leigh Bodden 2 of the 3 best players on their defense playing who they are now without ?

Unless im missing something their defense looks significantly worse this year, and their offense should be worse due to a continuously aging Moss and Welkers injury.

Them missing Bodden and Warren would be like our defense missing Revis and Harris. Except we actually have solid depth behind Revis

Losing Bodden and Warren hurts but they had a sick draft and have a lot of talent on both sides. Cunningham, Spikes and McCourty can contribute immediately. To write them off like you are is absurd.

I dont expect rookies to be able to fill the shoes of allpro players.

You take 2 of the 3 best players away from any defense in the nfl and its going to be crippled. The only exceptions are maybe the jets and Ravens but even theyll take a huge hit.

The Steelers losing 1-2 guys last year made their defense go from the nfls best to absolute garbage.

I understand they had a good draft but it takes time for those guys to get used to the nfl, I find it especially hard to believe that a rookie corner is going to be able to cover #1 wrs right out the gate. Especially when he has to go against guys like Marshall, Edwards, Holmes, A Johnson, Wayne, and teams like Packers, Chargers Bengals all of whom are high octane players/passing offenses.

I just dont see it happening

    1) Bodden and Warren aren't All-Pro's.

    2) Why are the NYJ an exception? Probably the biggest issue with the NYJ is lack of depth across the board.

    3) We will have a rookie corner covering those guys you mentioned (Swap Edwards/Holmes for Moss/Welker).

So by your logic we're fucked too.

Brady and Moss are in contract years, they will perform better than they did last year. I will never write off the Pats if Tom Brady and Randy Moss are playing at full tilt.

The Jets are an exception since our #2 cb could easily be a #1 corner. Most teams dont carry 2 #1 corners. And simply that we and the Ravens defense are loaded with studs. So you take 1-2 away and you still got a ton of other great guys who can step up. Thats why last year our defense proved this when we got better without Jenkins, and we even had backup safeties playing due to the poor attitude of Rhodes.

And youre assuming Revis doesnt play this year. And if he doesnt we very likely are fucked. Could we get to the playoffs without him sure, but there arent any people out there saying the jets are a superbowl contender without him.

And yeah they werent all pros im not sure why I thought that.

Comartie hasn't shown "#1 CB" coverage since that game vs Indy in 2007. I think he'll be good for us, but not #1 good.

We aren't discussing the Super Bowl were talking about the division.

Then the question you should ask yourself is: Can the Pats get to the playoffs without Leigh Bodden?

    Answer: Probably.

It's stupid to declare their season over because of these injuries.

Well it sucks and I never wish injuries on any team. This really puts the Pats in a quite a spot. The have to pray that McCourty steps up.

Damn, this sucks. Well, people have been touting Butler and McCourty as the future top CB's, so now is their time to learn on the job. Ultimately I think both those guys will be pretty good corners, potentially even pro bowlers, both there's certainly some growing pains for them this year and its scary that now we must rely on Wilhite and Wheatley that much more. How far the Pats go this year really depends on the youngest players and how quickly they can mature. Pat Chung, McCourty, and Butler all need to step up in the secondary, Spikes and Mayo need to step up at linebacker, on offense the two rookie tight ends Gronk and Hernandez along with second year receivers Edleman and Brandon Tate need to bring balance otherwise the offense otherwise it will just be Brady/Moss/Welker trying to carry the whole team. Should be a real interesting year because we've seen flashes from all of these players but not a ton of consistency, this is the year for the young players to really step up and become the core very fast. Could that be asking to much and a bunch of them end up being ineffective/ getting hurt? Yup, quite possibly.

Basically, the Pats will need to score points, and I think they are in a good position this year to do so.

On defense, the young CB's are only going to be as good as the pass rush the Pats can generate, which to me, IS the biggest issue for them. If they can't get after the QB any better than last year, they will have to score 30+ points a week to win.

    Torry Holt?

Seymour being missed a full year after he was traded?

I'm just surprised you didn't mention last year's switch-up with the long snapper as a key to the Patriots' impending doom in 2010.

i understand the pats d is fucked up right now, but the division still belongs to them.

crazy how alot of nfl writers are looking for them to finish 3rd in AFC. the pats scare me the most, and as long as beli, and brady are on the pats..well i expect them to do well.

Saying the Patriots don't have a shot at the division this year is like saying breathing isn't important for human survival.

Jets haven't proven they outclass the division and won't until they consistently slam the door in the Patriots faces. The Patriots managed to survive without Brady... with him they are a force regardless of injuries etc.
