The way I remember it is if your name is not Chad Pennington, than he doesn't like anyone. Coles seems like an angry dude.

Even if they wanted Coles they would sooner wait until he's cut than to give up draft picks. Everyone knows Coles is a stopgap for us.

I don't think this is stupid at all. Why would the Vikings give up something of value? Because when he gets cut he's on the open market.

A 5th round pick? Even a lower? It's still better than a nuthing round pick.

He was on the open market for months and attracted zero suitors, so yeah, it would be stupid to give up a draft pick for Coles who will be back on that market in no time.

Amazing things happen once players step foot on the field and certain numbers of them get wheeled off on gurneys.

There's a world of difference between the NFL market in May and the NFL market in September.

I disagree. The Vikes need a new WR not after week 4 when Coles gets cut, they need one NOW. They need a WR to replace Rice for the first half of the season. If they wait, it could be too late.

With Favre, despite Adrian Peterson's immense talent, they need to throw the ball, and they need to do that from NFL week one.

What would the Jets do if Cotch and Edwards went down (forgetting Coles for the moment)? No Holmes until week 5. They would absolutely go get a go to WR that Sanchez could trust, even though the Jets are a run oriented offense.

Minnesota is breaking the bank to bring Favre back for a Super Bowl run THIS year. That team has to win NOW. Once Favre hangs up the cleats, they have no SB hopes at all. If ever there was a team that needed to overpay for a solid veteran WR, it's the Vikings.

Coles was signed before the Vikes knew Harvin and Rice might miss so many games. They cannot afford to go 1-3. I don't think there is a snowball's chance in hell that Coles would be a Jet if Mnny knew what would happen to their #1 and #2 WR's. He'd be a Viking already.

Coles would be much more than a band aid for MIN right now. He'd be their primary WR. Berrian is fast, but Favre does NOT trust him as evidenced by the low number of targets Berrian got last year. He needs a go to guy. Coles would be a perfect fit.

Im not sure. I really would like to have him for the first 4 games. And have him as a backup.

But on the other hand, a first round pick? thats enticing.

But I would say trade Coles after week 4, but then we face the Vikings week 5. So no that wouldn't work well for us.

Good point but I'd rather my team not trade picks out of fear of a Lav Coles bidding war. If the Vikes were to ever cough up a pick for him Id be all for it.

There's no way in hell anyone is giving a couple of picks for Coles right now and no way in hell anyone is giving even one mid-round pick. He was unused and unwanted in Cincy, why is there demand for him from the Vikings? What can he offer them? He played with Favre for one season in a different offense and they weren't exactly good friends.

On top of all that it is still the preseason and they just signed Javon Walker who was a teammate of Favre. If he doesn't work out, there will be a shitload of other WRs available who do not require giving up a pick in the next week or two.

So why would they trade with us for Coles?

Coles is done after this tenure with the Jets, he said it himself. He is gonna retire a Jet, I doubt he'll go back and play with Favre in Minny even though it would be a good fit for him and he'd be playing half his games in a dome.

Why would they want Coles....didn't they just sign Javon Walker...one of Brett's favorite targets from the past?

Even the Minnesota papers are writing that Walker is NOT the answer. As for Coles, not saying it WILL happen, but the Vikes are built to win now, and what Brett wants, Brett gets. Favre wants to go out in a blaze of glory and right now he hasn't got crap for WRs. Rice is out for at least half the season and Harvin was taken by ambulance off the practice field the other day. I never thought the jets would get anything above a 4th/5th rounder for Coles, but it is a potential trade the jets should explore. As I tried to convey when I started this thread, the Vikings are really talking Super Bowl THIS year, and are seeking a veteran who has worked with Favre. It makes sense for Tanny to at least pick up the phone. Yes, I understand the trade probably won't happen.

The radio shows out of minny today also brought up the vikes trading for Randy Moss since Favre wanted him bad before he went to the Pats, that would be more likey....the Vikes are known for giving up a lot of draft picks for someone they like a la the Herschel Walker trade which set the Cowboys up for years to come.
