I can't remember which game exactly, but I remember the Lions chose to kick the ball in overtime What was their logic behind that?
What Mornhinweg did in that 2002 overtime game vs Chicago was pretty bad. However, he was not the only head coach whose team elected to kick in overtime. The others- Hank Stram Tom Landry Mike Ditka Jerry Glanville Bill Parcells Dan Reeves Ray Perkins Mike Shanahan Wade Phillips won- Stram, Ditka, Parcells, Reeves, Shanahan lost- Landry, Glanville, Perkins, Phillips, Mornhinweg NFL teams are 5-5 when electing to kick in overtime. Two times a team elected to kick in overtime and lost without possessing the ball in the extra period. One was Mornhinweg's 2002 Lions, of course. The other was Ray Perkins' Buccaneers in a 1988 game vs New England.
Marty probably hoped his Defense to control the field position or create a turnover rather than possibly having the Lions offense set forth and potentially cost them the game with a mistake. Don't get the logic but hey that's probably the logic or thought that ran in his head.
If you have a very good defense and the wind is playing a big factor in a low scoring game I don't think it's a bad decision.
Rex already said at some point last year that he would consider kicking off in OT after winning the toss......don't remember when or what prompted him to say that.
You guys are aware of the new overtime rule correct? Even if they scored, the otehr team would get a chance to match it.
Because Marty was fucking moron who tried really hard to prove to everyone how smart of a HC he was. IIRC, the Lions D was on the field for 8-9 minutes in the 4th Q. They were tired and the HC put them in a position to fail. Don't forget that stupid fucking Harley trick when he canceled practice and rode off in to the sunset. Guy was a joke.
I'm hoping that you A) only read the title of the thread (meaning you did not read all the replies), B) were unaware of the results of the first two 2010 Lions preseason games, and C) thought this thread was about one of the first two 2010 Lions preseason games.
