Coleman signed his one-year, restricted free agent tender worth $1.176 million in April. But last week, the team and his agent re-negotiated for him to earn $850,000 this year, all fully guaranteed, with a $220,000 signing bonus up front. The Jets save money at the position which is important because they are locked in negotiations with All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis.

Wouldn't cutting him have saved a bunch of $ to put towards Revis' contract? Asking seriously, not sure of what the implications of cutting him are. Cutting him certainly would've saved us a lot of headaches if he ever saw the field in a real game.
The only thing that makes any sense is that Westoff loves him on specials. They can't even cut this turd anymore.
#6 corner, plays special teams. can't cover too well, but does tackle well for a corner. as Tanny said the three keys to making the team are "Special Teams, Special Teams, Special Teams". he probably knows westhoff's shoe size by now.
hows that for a slap in the face? Drew coleman making more than Revis? good lord how was that not reported by every beat writer to prove revis was vastly underpaid this year?
That doesn't take into account his bonuses being amortized over the life of the contract. If they had a salary cap his cap number would be much higher then $1,000,000.
He sucks - yes we all agree with that. However, he's 4th on the depth chart for corners because Warren, Knight, & Cook, couldn't beat him for the job. I still think we are pretty thin at Corner. Revis elevates this secondary to elite because Kyle Wilson, who is currently a starter on this team (and probably is good enough to be a starter on any NFL team) would be playing the nickle CB role. That puts Lowery and Coleman as b/u players for CB for resting the starters. Having Lowery as the 4th stringer is impressive because he would be the #2 CB on most teams. Alas, until Mr. Revis shows his face in Jets camp, we have a good, but not great, CB corp.
With Revis, Coleman is the 5th corner on the team...he is clearly a reserve corner type player who knows the system and plays special teams well---I don't see an issue with him still being around.
