The really shitty thing about this is that Around the Horn is off all week..interesting how that coincides with this and the Mariotti thing. Nobody can even question him live on it now.
Haha yeah should be an interesting presser by Rex today. Poor guy's gonna get the same question asked ten different ways, and he can't answer any of them. Guess it beats talking about our Saturday night offense...
It was announced on Friday that Around the Horn wasn't going to air this week so I'm pretty sure it's purely a coincidence.
i really think Revis has done himself GREAT harm.....its obvious that the holdout has become PERSONAL,,,when i heard Woody cut off Mr T to say he doesnt forsee this getting resolved......i think i said "oooooohhhhh shit"
I know guys out here who have been content being PAs for multiple shows for multiple seasons. But for argument's sake, it NOT being a PA - a camera assistant on Hard Knocks: Jets could have ABSOLUTELY been a camera assistant for HK: Cowboys, Chiefs and Bengals. Also, PA'ing on an HBO show is potentially more lucrative than some of the better jobs on any basic cable reality show's production staff.
Link: Cowlishaw Explains the Revis Theory BY STEINY ON 23. AUG, 2010 Tim Cowlishaw who reported yesterday that the Jets are going to sign star CB Darrelle Revis on Wednesday, took to his blog this morning to try to explain everything. My quiet day ended when I obtained some information early in the afternoon about Darrelle Revis, the Jets’ fabulous cornerback who has been holding out from camp in order to get a new contract. The source of information was good, someone I have used before. Beyond that, I won’t go into further details. Originally I was told the signing would be “probably Wednesday or Saturday.” That seemed strange that there would be a possible range of three days in the situation. But when I found out one other aspect of the story that made me believe it had to be true, Wednesday made a lot more sense than Saturday. Since the 140-character nature of Twitter doesn’t lend itself to expanding on one’s thoughts, I just typed “probably Wednesday.” Even limiting myself to that, “probably Wednesday” sounded weird, like I was hedging my bets. I wasn’t trying to suggest there’s a deal-breaker involved, but who knows? Things of that nature happen all the time. Still, I felt like “probably Wednesday” was the most accurate information I could provide at the time. Once that one tweet was out there, my chances of getting much of the day off were shot (although I did manage to squeeze in three games at Top Golf with Ben and I didn’t forget to skype Rachel). It didn’t surprise me that my information was getting shot down right and left by those covering the Jets. As a beat writer covering the Cowboys for six years, I did a lot of “shooting down” and this was in the early days of ESPN and long before the world was wired and Twitter came along. I talked to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen and the New York Daily News‘ Gary Myers on the phone, a couple of guys I have known for 20 years or more. I exchanged texts or, in some cases, tweets with others I have had long relationships with. They were supportive if curious as to how this information was coming from a Dallas-based general columnist. Understandably curious. As for those who said I was making it up to get more followers: Does that sound like a good thing to do? I’ve worked for The Dallas Morning News for more than 20 years, ESPN for another seven. Is just making stuff up and having no clue about it a big part of my history? Getting predictions wrong, yeah, I’ve done that two or three times. Two or three thousand times, I mean. Throwing stuff against the wall with no idea whether or not it might stick? Not a real good way to maintain any shred of credibility. The messages coming in from Jets’ fans were pretty much non-stop and the only surprising thing about any of that was how many of them seemed to suggest they didn’t think Revis would sign until well into the season, if at all. How often does that happen? How often does that work? Emmitt Smith got extra guaranteed money by sitting two games in 1993. But that was the league MVP-to-be and he had to get somewhat lucky in rolling the dice that the Cowboys would go 0-2 to Washington and Buffalo and that Coach Jimmy Johnson would go so crazy about it that Jerry Jones would have no choice but to cave in. As great a player as Revis is, that’s a big gamble to take. Regardless, it does not appear that he is going to roll those dice. All signs indicate that the Revis saga, a major storyline for HBO’s Hard Knocks‘ special on the Jets, ends this week. And then I can tweet more about Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon … even if it doesn’t quite reach the same audience that Darrelle Revis does.
A camera assistant, sure. The only reason I wasn't buying the PA argument is the shortened shooting schedule. I just don't see it as likely that someone at that level sticks around that long AND builds a positive relationship with a Texas area beat writer in the meantime. The people I know who do consistent PA work for a single show do so BECAUSE of the consistency of the work. Hard Knocks wouldn't fit the bill for them. I just assumed the source was someone Cowlishaw would have had cause to spend a lot of time with and press for info since he gave so much credence to him, like an AP, or a segment producer, or even a production coordinator.
TC's scoop could very well be linked to HBO most likely indirectly or directly through a PA/Camera person/creature and somebody at HBO who TC has connections w/. HBO definately has an interest in integrating this into HK episode #2. Also Mevi$ & his sleazy agents have an interest in using HK as part of an "up close and personal" type of image rehabilitation strategy for Mevis and the sleazeballs. The Jets are most likely more than happy to play along w/this in order to get this done. Its not exactly difficult to see that all parties have a collective interest in using HK as a vehicle to resolve this soap opera on good terms using HK as the medium. It makes sense. I think TC will most likely turn out to be correct and that this gets done in conjunction w/HK.
Nail on the head. I PA'd on The Amazing Race and Ed, among other lesser known tv shows. These were the best jobs I've ever had because no one gives a shit what you do as long as you get the job done and the money is excellent for hit shows. That said, what IJR posted above is what I always complained about. I have good networking skills but you must have to have excellent networking (like off the charts) skills because the amount of facetime you get with the higher ups or important people on set, as a PA, is minimal. Your opportunity to advance is also difficult because no one leaves these positions unless they absolutely have to. Just my experience.
I'm glad to hear the Jets finally caved in to Revis' ridiculous contract demands nah im just kidding, but really hope theres a reasonable contract that will allow us to keep guys like David Harris, Cromartie, Braylon/or Santonio
omg coleman just guaranteed his roster spot.....................JennyVrentas Also, CB Drew Coleman re-worked his deal. Signed $1.176 tender in April. Will now earn $850,000 this season, all guaranteed. #nyj
