Futuer: ghost gets 7 sacks against Jake Long in our first Miami game. TGG: Ehh, lets see what he does against a MOBILE QB b4 we get excite.
Actually I was more impressed with the second name on the list. Cromartie has shown he can be physical and his tackles came against 1st stringers.
Not only did Cro have 3 tackles, but they were solid shoulder hitting form tackles. Really nice to see him playing physical.
IF you play end in 3-4 you're not getting a ton of sacks. I'm not judging his success based on sacks.
Preseason or not. First stringers, second stringers, whatever. Anything Gholston can do to gain some confidence, feel more a part of the team, is a step in the right direction.
I agree. The bottom line is, he looks the best he's ever looked by miles in a Jets uniform. If he can become a lineman who consistently breaks the rotation and plays valuable minutes, he will have exceeded my expectations.
I was impressed with his hustle plays and actually shedding a few blocks, really don't think I could ever have said that about him to date.
I had to listen on the radio last night and on one play he apparently broke contain and the back ran outside. He ended up getting the tackle 4 yards down field on a play that should have forced back to the middle. Not to be negative though it is good to at least see him being active. If he plays 20 to 30% of the plays this year as a solid rotational end I think we can all live with that.
holy shit gholston got a sack! damn, and 4 tackles????????? well i did say about 3 months ago, i think gholston will get between 4-8 sacks this season.
He played really well. He also was the reason why Westerman got a sack. Gholston took two blockers and opened a lane straight through. Man, if he can turn out to be a good player, that would be something.
People forget that Bryan Thomas had 3 sacks after three seasons. Not that he has become a great player, but he became a quality NFL player who is entering his 9th season. Sometimes it takes time.
This guy is as big a bust as we have ever had, and that is really saying something. Hell, even Blair Thomas has a few good games.
I only saw a few plays (dam 4 AM NFL replay) but he did force Clausen outside and have to throw it away there late in the 4th and yes he took on multiple blockers freeing up Westerman but I think Ghost actually got credit for a sack on that play. I just heard Ian Eagle saying what a great game he played tonight. It's a small step but a very positive one. Next week lets hope for more progress.
I couldn't agree more. We just need Gholston to break the DL rotation and give us quality production. If he did that, he wouldn't be known as the "Ghost" anymore and most Jets fans would accept him as gainfully employed New York Jet.
That may end up being true, but we knew that last year. The bar has been set so low for him by the media and the fans that ANYTHING he does to contribute is a bonus to a defense that we figure is pretty damn good without him doing anything at all.
gholston is gonna get 3 sacks and a forced fumble recover for TD in the monday night opener vs bal...HAHa
