NFL Network's Jason La Canfora reports that the 49ers have placed DL Kentwan Balmer on the trade block.

La Canfora passes along whispers of interest in the underachieving, AWOL lineman, with San Francisco potentially salvaging a sixth- or seventh-round pick for the draft bust. Balmer certainly looks the part at 6'5/315, and could appeal to some 3-4 teams as a five-technique defensive end. It's just never a good sign when a player is still a "project" entering his third season.

Apparently they will also attempt to collect at least $960,000 from his signing bonus when he was drafted in 2008.
2008 1st rounder ---- the guy's gotta be worth a 7th rounder for us. Even the PATS are starting Gerard Warren. I'd make the phone call to the west coast.

Looks like he's going to the Seahawks. They are just waiting on the paperwork to go through.

A lot of people here really liked him when he was coming out of UNC. I would've given up a late round pick for him considering our poor depth at DE.

This is a dude who won't even turn up to camp. He makes Gholston look dedicated.

Maybe not ----- apparently he was quick to write out a check paid to San Fran for about $800k. There were looking to recoup some bonus $$. Seems like he was eager to get out of there.

He wanted a fresh start after blowing it the first time, I hear.

He was absolutely buried on the depth chart in SF, 3rd and not likely to rise. In Seattle he gets a chance to prove he can perform at an NFL level.

I'm glad Balmer is out of here, I bet the player we draft with the pick from Seattle ends up better than Balmer, and it's a 6th rounder.
