I know it's early, but I can't take the Revis talk much more and thinking of keeping Conner and Richardson got me thinking. Here's what I came up with.

    QB (3): Sanchez, Brunell, Clemens

RB (6): Greene, Tomlinson, Conner, Richardson, McKnight, Woodhead

WR (6): Edwards, Holmes/Coles, Cotchery, Smith, Clowney, Allison

    TE (3): Keller, Hartsock, Cumberland

OL (8): D'Brick, Slauson, Mangold, Moore, Woody, Hunter, Vlad, Turner

DL (6): Ellis, Jenkins, Pouha, DeVito, Gholston, Pitoitua

LB (8): Harris, Scott, Pace, Thomas, Taylor, Cummings, Laury, Westerman

CB (6): Revis, Cromartie, Wilson, Lowery, Cole, Coleman

S (5): Leonhard, Pool, Smith, Ihedigbo, Warren

    P (1): Weatherford

    K (1): Folk

I counted Holmes/Coles as 1 WR because Holmes won't cost us a roster spot while he's suspended and Coles is likely getting cut when he gets back.

    Where is Sione Pouha?

I'd really like to see Jason Davis make this team over Danny Woodhead, Matt Mulligan, or Brashton Satele.

He has the ability to play a role on special teams.

The odds are really against him because of Conner and Richardson though...but if we're going to have six backs on the roster, I'd rather have Davis over Woodhead.

Cumberland and Mulligan should be battling for the third and final tight end spot. Remember, our offensive staff likes to use an extra offensive lineman in blocking situations - so I doubt we'll carry four tight ends.

I'm thinking Westerman comes back for a second tour.

oh wow, how did I leave him off? I have to cut someone!

I cut Satele and kept Westerman. Good catch.

This thread is just going to prolong the Revis discussion.

    QB (3): Sanchez, Brunell, O'Connel

RB (5): Greene, Tomlinson, Conner, Richardson, McKnight

WR (7): Edwards, Holmes, Coles, Cotchery, Smith, Clowney, Allison

    TE (3): Keller, Hartsock, Cumberland

OL (8): D'Brick, Slauson, Mangold, Moore, Woody, Hunter, Vlad, Turner

DL (6): Ellis, Jenkins, Pouha, DeVito, Gholston, Pitoitua

LB (8): Harris, Scott, Pace, Thomas, Taylor, Westerman, Cummings, Laury

CB (5): Cromartie, Wilson, Lowery, Cole, Coleman

S (5): Leonhard, Pool, Smith, Ihedigbo, Warren

    P (1): Weatherford

    K (1): Folk

I think that Coles may be retained in this scenario.

I was editing while you responded to fix that.

What about keeping Conner and Davis and losing Richardson?

Good point. I had changed a couple of things while you were responding.

You don't think Matt Kroul or Rodrique Wright will make the team as rotational linemen? I could see us carrying less corners and more lineman, especially if Revis comes back.

Donnie Warren can line up at corner. We have a ton of versatility in the defensive backfield with guys like Smith, Ihedigbo, Warren, Wilson, and Lowery being used as role players. I'm excited about Kyle Wilson - I hope he ends up the nickel because I think he'll have an immediate impact there.

In my opinion, releasing him would be a mistake - even if Conner outperforms him in camp.

I don't think this team can afford to lose a veteran leader like Tony Richardson.

After watching Hard Knocks, it's become blatantly obvious to me how important this guy really is.

I completely agree. I'm surprised that this has even been floated out there to be honest. It isn't because I don't think Conner or even Davis could do the job, but the guy has a pretty significant leadership role on this team. Also, it isn't like he's done either. I cannot envision any scenario where the Jets actually cut Richardson. I'd be shocked.

After handing TJ and Faneca their walking papers, I doubt the Jets would be willing to risk aggravating player/team opinion of the FO even more by dump another popular veteran.

But Conner is definitely looking like he could push for the starting spot by opening day. I'm loving this kid more and more.
