Did you really think that a thread about cornerbacks this week would not be dominated by talk of Revis? I understand wanting to give the kid some love, but there's no way to talk about Wilson starting without talking about Revis. None.
Simply put the acquisition of not one but TWO First Round Draft Pick CBs in the off season was not just a good move, its proving to have been an EXCELLENT move. Kyle Wilson could be something Very Special at CB. We should be psyched to have him. He is not holding out, he is in camp working with the No. 1 team. These are good things.
^ not for nothing, but its hard for the 29th pick to hold out. At that point you are pretty much going by what the previous pick got and doing simple math from there.
I hear you ND. But the point is that a major new factor this season has been the addition of 1st rounders Cro and Wilson. I would think most Jets fans would be pretty psyched to see the pride of Piscataway - Kyle Wilson - in action. He has apparently been very impressive thus far.
Oh, just stop it. Leon was offered a GREAT contract. He refused to sign it. He broke his leg. He fucked up. And it cost him. Leon was in his last year of his contract. Revis has 3 left. No comparison. The Jets gave Revis more up front money in exchange for a 6, not a 5 year deal. The Jets are gonna let him hang out to dry. He basically made his own bed. He wants to sit for 2 years? I say let him. He is under contract.
Yes, complete clusterfuck, but Woody is just as culpable in this as Tannenbaum. He's been getting more and more involved with the day-to-day dealings. He deserved the praise for actually spending money to bring in big name talent but if he wants to foster a team that knows it's committed to its own players, he's going to have to start handing out the green to guys on the roster, not just guys he wants on the roster. He's getting dangerously close to Dan Snyder's signature moves. Letting this Revis deal get out of hand probably hasn't shown too much good will to Harris and Mangold's future dealings. Back to your original point, though, it is a great observation. He definitely should have been much more active early on.
Back to Wilson: He's going to have a lot thrown at him in a very short period of time. He has all the physical tools to succeed but it's going to come down to how much he can learn as quickly as possible. The Patriots, Packers, Broncos, Steelers and Vikings are all going to test him more so than his college career ever did. He's aggressive and confident enough to do it. Hopefully he can pick up the schemes.
Culpable for what exactly? Culpable for Darelle Revis deciding to hold out and breach his contract? Please explain how your "reasoning" has led you to such a twisted conclusion. So you think Mr. Johnson should be handing out money to players that he doesn't want on the roster? BTW, Committment is an interesting word to use in attempting to defend the actions of a multi millionaire player who is refusing to live up to the agreement he signed 3 yrs ago. What moves are you referring to that you think are comparable to the Jets refusing to pay Revis 15Mil + a yr? How exactly has Mr. Johnson let this Revis deal "get out of hand"? Would you advise Mr. Johnson to just pay whatever Revis wants? Have you ever negotiated anything in your life? What exactly would you have wanted him to do and when? And how would this have prevented Revis from holding out and demanding to be paid more than Aso?
when I read the thread title I thought it was going to say: "Kyle Wilson now starting...to renegotiate his rookie deal, holdout expected"
You night want to read Gary meyers column. 10 years 120. 4 years 40 mil. The way it reads Team Mevi$ will not agree on total dollars, and then proceed to working out the details. This is not a management problem. This is a player problem.
I think he's going to do well too. Having watched him quite a bit the past 3 years, one thing I can say about him is he's a competitor.
